I find with using Ai for both work and personal use it’s all about the quality of your “brief”, what you ask it to do or look for and the level of detail you want back. No disrespect to the posters who shared war and peace but you could have gone back annd asked the ai to do a one or two paragraph summary maybe? I’m not sure many of use will read all that info

Of course he doesn’t….like when he says how much Warnock spent on promotion, he always fails to mention he got a big chunk back by selling Reid straight away, Warnock just wasted the other 20 million. We also had years of parachute payments…..

You're mixing me up, I'm a big fan of what Warnock achieved.

Not sure it covers it but here you go

Cardiff City Football Club faces a complex valuation landscape, primarily due to its recent relegation to League One and a challenging financial position. For the year ended May 31, 2024, the club reported an operating loss of nearly £10 million and net liabilities of £30.8 million, underscoring persistent unprofitability. A significant portion of its debt, £68 million, is owed to majority shareholder Vincent Tan, who has historically waived interest and indicated a willingness to write it off or convert it to equity, offering flexibility for a potential buyer. However, £40.3 million in loans to directors and connected parties represents a more conventional, repayable liability. The club's descent to League One will drastically reduce core revenue streams, with broadcast and solidarity payments expected to plummet by 75% to 80% from Championship levels, further impacting player market values and necessitating substantial cost-cutting.

Despite these financial headwinds, Cardiff City possesses valuable assets, including its stadium, independently valued at £84.5 million, and a loyal fanbase demonstrated by strong season ticket sales. When considering comparable sales of clubs in similar situations, such as Reading FC (estimated £25-£30 million including stadium) and Derby County (effectively £33 million post-administration in League One), a realistic sale value for Cardiff City FC is estimated to be in the range of £20 million to £40 million. This valuation accounts for the severe financial impact of relegation, the club's debt structure, and the potential for Vincent Tan to write off a significant portion of his loans, which would make the club a more attractive acquisition for a new owner.

It’s a thing I’ve often pondered, I was thinking along the lines of something like going to the bar and the round cost you twenty quid, when you get back to the table one of your lot gives you a fiver but you keep on moaning that you’ve just spent twenty quid. You’re fibbing, aren’t you?

I doubt it, but it's looking like he's starting to consider it more, but who knows? I'm sure his family would like him to sell it and enjoy the rest of his life.

all that (which is where I took my figures from, along with the annual accounts), to say £20m-£40m but the debt, but the stadium, but … As I originally wrote, there are many reports each with a varying conclusion.

The debts payable within the FY, is £137m, of which £68m to Tan. What about the other £69m, do the buyers buy that off? Who decides it gets waived?

Anyone who still doesn't know what AI can do is definitely not going to be bowled over by that.

I showed an uncle how it could write a song about a turtle eating lasagne for dinner. And that was waaaay better than this

You may both be right - but I don’t think so.

My understanding from the summaries of the annual accounts done by Keith and others over the years is that Tan has put in about £250m and taken nothing out. Some of his ‘loans’ to the club have been cancelled. Some have been converted to equity. There have been several share re-issues. Tan doesn’t charge interest on his loans - unlike Dalman via Tormen Finance.

Previous creditors have been paid off. The club has assets and it has outstanding debts to Tan and to Tormen (maybe a few other smaller debts).

None of that suggests that there is a ‘net’ figure for Tans financial support that is less than £250m because of other income the club has received over the years. It is all in there together - the income and expenditure - and explained in the accounts. I am not clear whether the Sala legal costs have come from the club or Tan direct or how any settlement will be treated. But none of that changes what he has put into the club. That is not where the problems with Tan lie.

About the consortium, a summarised version, from Gemini

Gareth Bale, the renowned former footballer, is actively exploring ownership opportunities in English football, engaging with two distinct clubs: his hometown club, Cardiff City, and Plymouth Argyle. These endeavors highlight different approaches to club acquisition, reflecting the evolving landscape of sports finance where high-profile athletes are increasingly investing in sports clubs. Both takeover efforts are currently in early, uncertain stages, with initial approaches having been rejected or characterized as speculative.

For the Plymouth Argyle bid, Gareth Bale is "fronting" an "American-backed consortium" that has held initial discussions with the club. This consortium explicitly includes members of the Storch family. David Storch is identified as the Managing Partner of Arise Capital Partners (ACP), a US-based family-owned investment firm. ACP primarily focuses on "control investments" in "lower middle market companies" across sectors like industrial and transportation aftermarket, logistics, material handling, and paper & packaging, rather than sports . Bale's role in this bid is primarily as the public "face," leveraging his celebrity profile to add glamour and attract further investment.

In contrast, Gareth Bale has publicly confirmed his interest in acquiring a controlling stake in Cardiff City, expressing a deep personal connection and a desire for a "very significant" operational role, not merely a "bit-part player". An initial inquiry from the group involving Bale was rejected by current owner Vincent Tan. The Cardiff City Supporters' Trust characterized this as a "notice of intention" or a preliminary "fishing trip," indicating no formal bid has progressed . While the consortium is described as featuring "British and American investors," no specific names beyond Bale have been publicly disclosed for this bid .

The speculative nature of these bids, particularly the "fishing trip" approach for Cardiff, suggests a broader strategy of exploring multiple opportunities in the English Football League . The increasing involvement of US private equity and celebrities like Bale in English football is a growing trend, driven by the sport's global appeal and commercial potential. However, the success of these ventures hinges on complex financial negotiations, strategic alignment, and building trust with fan bases, who often seek transparency regarding investors' identities and long-term plans.

Wales online are a joke - just rehashing the same article time and time again with sensational headlines that have no bearing on the content of the report - they don't seem have any leads or info of their own - just use other sources

Exactly this. In the past they’ve printed an article based on something that I posted on this forum, virtually word for word.
