Always puts me in mind of Michael Douglas in Falling Down . The pen in the shirt pocket clinches the deal

I think some of us get 'bothered' by misuse of language because it can be lazy, nonsensical or perverse.

When it doesn't have to be!

    Now, on to double negatives.....
He should of got that (grinds my teeth)

Double negatives used to be used in Old English.

Jagger should have sung that he can get satisfaction though.

The waste of time and energy is unfortunately ours trying to fathom out what people mean when they speak such nonsense. The only way ‘get’ can be used in this circumstance is ‘can you get (whatever) for me’, ‘can I get’ means you are asking if you can go behind the counter, reach up on the shelf and get it. The server should say, ‘Yep, it’s over there, go and get it’

Can I change the subject and ask, apart from weddings, funerals etc. when was the last time you wore a suit? Must be about fifty years in my case.

I wore a lilac suit to my brother's wedding when I was 18 but I don't like to talk about it.

P.S. I haven't worn one for decades otherwise - although I sometimes wore a jacket that looked like it matched my trousers in numerous meetings with officials from other countries. Ties presented to us as presents by Chinese government officials were taken from us a soon as we left the room - to be checked for micro-microphones!

Mad seeing those old photos of Barry island day trips, all the dads in jackets & ties and the mams in long frocks sat on deck chairs enjoying the blazing sun

Appalling English in the first example, it should be 'can you get one of those'. TBF, a proper education isn't cheap and the selection process does weed out the riffraff. I digress
