Thread: Seven subs and no goalline technology

Seven subs and no goalline technology

Teams can only name 7 subs in League 1. And use 5 of them.

There is no goalline technology so it's the decision of the officials if the ball has crossed the line when it's a tight call.

A new rule across football: Referees will punish goalkeepers holding on to the ball for more than eight seconds by awarding a corner to the opposition.

Refs have supposed to be punishing keepers for holding onto the ball for too long for years (I thought it was 6 seconds though) yet it rarely ever happens. If you’re lucky the ref will book the keeper in the 90+6th minute.

Do you know if the goal line technology point is a new one for this season Mike, I thought it was used in all 4 divisions.

Not new Jay. It's only used at this level in the play offs.

It used to be 6 seconds but was changed to with the change to a corner instead of an indirect free kick.

Wasn’t aware of that and I don’t get why there shouldn’t be goal line technology- it wouldn’t cost too much would it?

The 7 subs is a shame as it'll restrict chances for younger players

Re: Seven subs and no goalline technology

I can only assume that the reason for limiting to seven subs is to try and stop the bigger richer clubs gaining an advantage over the rest, shirley something that should apply in the premiership too

The "rule" of the keeper holding onto the ball longer than six seconds has been abused for too long and I'm not sure i have ever seen a team penalised for it.
If this new ruling is enforced I can see many more flash points occurring.
It has to be a good thing though provided there is consistency.

A countdown clock on the big screen for the goalie, anyone?

And waste even more time at the resultant corner with all the pushing and pulling necessitating the ref to speak to players.
