Calum Chambers looking forward to captaining Cardiff City

“It was really nice [to be named captain]. When I found out, it’s a nice feeling that the players think that way of you. It’s a new challenge and a new role for me. I’ve not had it before. I feel I’m at a time in my career which is a good time for it. It’s like a new challenge for me, so I’m looking forward to it."

Chambers is available to lead the side at Port Vale after missing the first game of the season through suspension.

“I’m ready to go and excited to get started having missed the first game. I’m buzzing to get my season started."

“Personally, it was frustrating because you want to be involved, but I was just really excited to watch the boys, see all the fans, I thought the atmosphere was amazing. I was buzzing for the whole day, to be honest.

“The manager’s been amazing since he’s come in. I think pre-season has gone really well. Everyone is buzzing and the boys are really excited.

"The style that we’re playing and the identity we have, it works amazingly with the group and the players that we have. I feel there’s a real identity about us and a path for us going forward in the way that we want to play. The vibe around the place is really good.

I thought Glen Williams managed to ask some sharp questions today - mostly to BBM (training after Saturday, 'club signings', general recruitment plans and contract extensions) but also to Chambers.

The one about how we've been poor defensively for at least 2 years and what is being done to change that was on the money. The reply about intensity of training and a new dynamic, high-press, defend from the front style was probably as good as could be expected.

I suppose he could have said half the defenders are slow of thought and body, and prone to making mistakes, so it will be a long season, but in the spirit of positivity and optimism, he didn't.

Come on, you can't have people running around telling the truth. Where would that all end?

I'm a fan of the press style. We forced Peterborough into a lot of errors and took possession in their own half, which is always nice to see. Hopefully it's not too draining on long-term stamina, given we're likely to play 55 games plus this season.
