he just needs to believe in himself and go for it.

Didn't have a good game but Willock was no better. However good for him realizing he has to do better

Hopefully he isn't reading comments. That can't be any good for you.

Had a poor game but so did pretty much everyone.

I think that so many players have lost their confidence.
Cian Ashford looked fantastic when he came on the scene. Now he looks timid almost.

Tanner is totally up to the standard we are playing at. No disguising that he was woeful last night though.

Do we have a Sports psychologist?

Tanner's issue is consistency. There's a good player there, but it's about getting it out more often. He could develop into a solid second-tier winger, but he, like Wintle, shows flashes of brilliance but then has games where he's a passenger or less.

A Tanner free kick is a wasted free kick

A whole season where we were losing consistently and ultimately the worst side in the league is going to effect confidence.

It's been suggested that certain players will be far better at this level. We'll Chambers and Willock looked just as bad maybe even worse due to the physicality.

This squad needed desperately 4 or 5 new players not scarred by relegation and also to add some leaders pace and physicality.

The failure by this board to act is another which you can add to their long list of feck ups.

There was some hope with the takeover talk but as the imminent takeover was in fact complete Bullsh!t its put a dampener on the seasons start.

We are treading water until someone buys Tan Out. Unfortunately we are now doing it in L1.

Any manager watching our 1st two games will know to get into us physically and know we cant compete.

    It's going to be tough.

Port Vale were unlucky not to score from 3 first half corners.

If we don’t sort out our central defence, teams will work us out

Joel Colwill, marking a 6ft 2in defender, I think not

Saw j Colwill marking him and couldn't get my head around it.

It's the basics, BBM could have us having 70% of the ball but you have to be able to defend properly from set pieces.

    Action speaks louder than words.

If he has said it was not good enough and that he will continue to learn and improve, that is fine.

However from what I have seen from him so far this was an example of a lack of discipline in even doing the basics right.
He has inconsistency, even within games, let alone from game to game. Last week, I felt he gave his most consistent performance so far, but then suddenly we were back to the usual.

Talk is cheap, let us see the evidence of this need to improve, starting in the next game… that is, if he is selected.

Tanner was a revelation when he first signed. Like, where did we find this guy? But two years or so later, he’s a shadow of that player. Why? It’s been trained out of him. Don’t take chances, pass back inside, etc. Sure, we occasionally get the odd burst of the old Tanner, but now he looks timid and he never takes on his man.
You could argue the same about Ashford, to some extent, and even Darland. I don’t know what they coach them down there, but something is not right. Hopefully with the new management, players will be given free rein to express themselves more.

The over hit crosses of Tanner and Willock together with some of the others could have been the result,in part, of the nature of the pitch which seemed unusually small. The area from touchlines to the crowd, for a smallish ground, appeared enormous. Just a thought.

Was Tanner a revelation when he first signed? I recall us putting him out on loan to York City because he was way off.

It was poor judgement. Simple as that.

He was a gamble then and is now.

He never beats his man on the outside and constantly cuts inside onto his left foot. His distribution was awful last Saturday but far worse in midweek

Salech should have scored on Saturday when Tanner beat his man on the outside and put a peach of a cross (on his right foot) right on Salech's head.

Tanner was never a "revelation" when he first signed for us, far from it. He was clearly not up to the fitness requirements of the full-time professional game.

As Tuerto pointed out, Tanner was loaned to York City. I think the goals against Swansea and Bristol City have stuck in the minds of a lot of City fans and clouded their judgment a bit.

Agreed on Ashford, he was so good at times last season, seems a shadow of himself at the moment. I suppose maybe that's to be expected from young players though.

In my opinion, Tanner isn't good enough. He'll have one great game in 10 and that's about it. most of the time he loses the pass, can't keep or run with the ball.
