It's about balance, obviously.
I've said a number of times in recent months that I'd be confident of City having a good season if the club brought in three or four experienced, battle-hardened leaders. They wouldn't have to be anything spectacular and wouldn't have to cost a lot of money by any means, but this team desperately needs leadership and direction, both on the field and in the dressing room.
I was impressed by Ojo in Port Vale's midfield on Thursday. He's 33 and has been playing in the UK since 2017 for the likes of Scunny, Aberdeen, Wigan, Shrewsbury and Port Vale. I have no idea if Thursday was his usual level of performance, but I thought he had a really good game. He'd have been an asset in City's midfield on the night for sure.
I honestly don't know too much about League One these days, I've watched very little football at this level in recent years, but what I know for certain is our current squad lacks experience, leadership and is often a soft touch. I think if things were left as they are, we wouldn't have even a remote chance of promotion this season.
My concern is BBM is waiting for PL loans.
If that is the case I hope even if young they are tough and physical.
Ten years have to be split in to three groups. To me it makes sense to have three at the beginning and the end, and four in the middle. But whatever. My point is that it's far from odd or wrong to suggest that 23 is mid-twenties.
One bad game which we didn't even lose and it's chuck out the kids and get in a load of 35 year old League 1 warhorses

The fact that Chambers is captain and Colwill is vice-captain tells its own story.
In fairness, to me, it seemed Delmbox was the one calling out those who were having a hissy fit after the Port Vale game, rather than having one himself.

I think you misread his post - it was irony, but if you put out a back four of Kpakio, Bagan, Lawlor and Fish, 9 times out of 10 they are in for a hiding. Individually they're all fully capable of playing 90 minutes at this level, but not altogether. There's nothing in our coach's comments however that suggests he's looking to bring in 'experience', just exceptional quality, probably from Crystal Palace's under 21's..
ItÂ’s no secret to ourselves that we get outbattled by anyone who applies an ounce of determination (a la Oxford, Portsmouth, Port Vale). PV fans were beside themselves that they had given us a game on Thursday and were praising their team to the hilt. They obviously were unaware we are pretty dreadful. We need to take advantage of the misplaced fear factor for as long as possible until we are truly rumbled in this league or it will be a case of deja vu and on to League 2.
Stevie Wonder can see this team needs leaders and more experience. Yes we need to bring the kids through but not 7 or 8 starting at the same time out of 10 outfield players. You can’t have 3 of the back 4 learning their trade at the same time. You just can’t.
We’ve gone from one extreme under Warnock and everyone over the age of 30 to everyone under the age of 23.
The 3 “senior” older heads showed absolutely no leadership on Thursday night.

I agree its about balance, but I'm pretty terrified of the kind of signings our much fabled recruitment team will cook up if they're given the brief of "experienced League 1 players"
The team on Thursday was young but there was also some experience in all thirds of the pitch. It may have been his first start but the keeper was a 27 year old who's played at this level and higher before, including the Danish top flight, at centre back was a 30 year old former England international with almost 200 PL games under his belt, our holding midfielder was a 28 year old with over 300 EFL appearances and on the wing we had a 27 year old who played almost 200 Championship games. That's a decent amount of experience, what they lack sadly is almost any kind of physical edge in a game that is increasingly concerned with speed. I reckon the worst thing we could do is bring in someone like Grant Hanley (off the top of my head I think he's available for free) and partner him with Chambers, we'd end up with the worst of both worlds - no youthful exuberance/quality and no physical edge in favour of experience
Personally I think keeping Joe Ralls would have gone some way to addressing the concerns about on and off field leadership, I also think making Chambers captain could have been a mistake despite him feeling like the natural option due to his seniority
The likes of Chambers, Wintle and Willock may be experienced but they are not leaders in any way, shape or form.
City were relegated last season with barely a whimper. The team was a soft touch and was often out-battled. In the main, the players lacked fight, courage, direction and leadership. Nothing has been done to address that situation. Absolutely nothing, and that doesn’t bode well for a season in League One.
We need a centre half and a midfielder with a hard edge
I tend to agree, which is why I said the worst thing I think we could do is play them alongside any experienced signings, which is what I think would inevitably happen. It would take a brave manager to make Calum Chambers captain, then drop him.
Something else I'd mention is the recruitment setup at the club, like I said I'd hate to see the kind of players they'd sign with the "experienced League 1" remit. Are they capable of identifying courage & leadership? After all its the same guys who brought in Chambers, Willock et al and loaded our team with slow players
