Yeah, jason was quick. He always caused me problems when he was at Swansea. There was another kid who went to Southampton (same age) Lee Powell, from Newport, I couldn't get near him for pace, so i'd just stay as close as possible to him, just spoil, not play.....

He was good..... Pace to burn, only slight in stature, but over 20 mts he was so fast, and he could play. I had to bully him up to get the upper hand. Played on Somerton Park against him and that was a big pitch, well it seemed big coming up against him. He played for Southampton in the premier league and then just drifted off the radar.

Interesting comments from Ryan Wintle yesterday about Colwill. This from the BBC:

One player who has been a big part of the new, youthful Cardiff City has been attacking midfielder Rubin Colwill.

The Wales international, 23, has - according to Wintle - been given more freedom by Brian Barry-Murphy.

"I spoke to the manager partly about him when he first came in and I said with Rubin, he's got all the ability in the world, he should be in the Premier League, but he's not quite had the right coaching to say, 'this is what you have to do'," Wintle said.

"With this manager, he's kind of given him a freedom, but he's said to him, 'this is what you've got to do and this is how you'll get good numbers and this is how you'll win games and you'll look even better'. And he's been doing it so far so, hopefully, it continues.

"He's 6ft 6in and probably the best mover on the ball I've ever seen. I always compare him to Morgan Rodgers [of Aston Villa] and people like that. He's got that ceiling and he's got to be looking at that now and especially with this coach, he's only going to take him higher and higher, hopefully with us. So hopefully, he can get there."

I wonder if he's thinking that he could be banging in the goals in front of 20000 fans for his hometown club who are top of the league, rather than scuffing around in the United reserves?

Never get players moving to a top 6 club on. a free when their 16. It almost never works out and is a bit like sticking 2 fingers up to the club that have nurtured you for years.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Would Matondo have had the career so far if he'd stayed at City, given our record of bringing through young players in the last 10 years? I think by moving to a big club you are guaranteeing a few loans at a decent level and then a very good chance of moving on to Championship level or above afterwards, then it's up to you.

Compared to the players we have released in the same timeframe who almost indefinitely end up at Conference North/South or Welsh League level, I know which option I'd choose.
