This is rearranging the deckchairs on the titanic
Most of the same old bunch that are very unpopular still in jobs
The biggest problem for Labour is Starmer
Until he walks the plank the country is walking towards Farage as Prime Minister
“Only those who do not seek power are qualified to hold it”
Attributed to Plato.
Let’s be honest, right across the political spectrum for a good number of years there seems to have been very slim pickings of candidates with intelligence and integrity.
They all seem sleazy, self serving with the gravitas of Donald Duck.
What happened to political heavyweights?
Is it just because I am getting older that it seems this way to me…similar to my disdain for a lot of modern culture?
I do honestly think that Corbyn had the morals…unfortunately though, he appeared to be too radical.
Mick Lynch/Blue Labour is something that I could get behind.
There is plenty of schadenfreude on this thread, probably like most threads of a political nature.
Feeling better for someone’s misfortune or getting things wrong.
I posted a few questions to Cyril a little while back, which he answered eloquently…that related to this.
I can’t quite remember but I think my point in questioning was something along the lines of would you rather be wrong in your thinking for the greater good?
There is a a large chance, that isn’t how I put the question or how it was perceived.
Thing is now that politics has become one team against the other (with plenty of other people being left behind thinking WTF?) petty point scoring is what we have as a result.
Has the capability to yield or bend with the wind gone forever when lines have been so deeply drawn in the sand?
David Lammy is insufferable and I want Labour to do well
The feeling of schadenfreude stems from the belief that she is a false prophet. She fervently condemned every minor, and in the case of the Tories, major, wrongdoing with the zeal of a puritanical preacher, presenting herself as pure and untainted by the greed, gluttony, and self-serving sins of the middle and upper classes. Ange was seen as a person on our side, standing against this entitled establishment.
We initially gave her the benefit of the doubt regarding her pre-government house-flipping, thinking, "I would do that, too." However, as the second-most important person in government, it took her less than a year to join the very ranks of the people she had so passionately condemned.
Her actions validated the quiet guilt felt by a son of a Llanedeyrn single parent who, after drifting away from the Labour Party for decades, wants to keep the money he worked and sacrificed so hard for to ensure his children and their children don't have to grow up like he did. Raynor's behavior simply confirmed that even the "purest" of people can succumb to this and she is a bit of a fraud.
They are all shocking, I dont think any of them , from starmer down are up to the job and are basically giving the keys of number 10 to a far right bunch of fruitcakes
Starmer , Reeves , Cooper , Lammy , Streeting , Powell , Rayner , Alexander, Kendal , completely useless
I would lynch the lot of them
Put your list aside, look at the other parties who IMO are no different in that those at the top of each party are equally dislikeable, politics in the UK to keep it relevant is in a shocking state, i'm sure Ms. Raynor went into politics with a genuine desire to do well and show how someone from a background that most of us come from can achieve in life if dedicated and focused enough and as LLan BB above has alluded to, just fell into the swamp of greed in a very short period of time, i'm pretty sure many would follow suit given the opportunity to cream a little off the top when the carrot is dangled thinking that you would be insulated from being caught, Nigel Farage seems to be getting the treatment at the moment and it would appear that he's dodging tax albeit in a different legal (sic) tax avoidance scheme, where is this going to stop ? with the taxation system in the UK as is there will always be many looking to avoid paying it or reducing it, again its the root cause (excessive tax) that needs addressing, the age old solution of just taxing the rich more and more i don't think is the solution and just leads to tax avoidance via many schemes
Bump. Like I said, tax evasion and avoidance except he's a very middle class male. Pile on boys...
Not really gloating at her misfortune moreover how holier than vow she was in the past, when really, given the chance, she’s just a wrong un like so many of them who think they can get away with anything…..like so many of the Tories…..I bet she’s gutted she’s going to miss out on so many back handers now for giving the go ahead to this and that, it’s what they do….serving the public? Yeah rightio
Corbyn appointed Big Ange to the shadow front bench in 2016 - her first big role - and she was one of only 18 Labour MPs to support Jezza in the leadership election a couple of months later.
So for her to say she was "never a Corbynite" is being a bit economical with the truth.
The name you mentioned is very closely linked to the MP for Cardiff West, as you well know.
Ange was a rival and a likely successor to our deeply unpopular PM. There will be many, many figures within Labour who will be very happy to see the end of her ambitions to lead.
I don't know what you mean about Rayner being 'one of only 18 Labour MPs to support Jezza.....'? In the Chicken Coup there was a 'no confidence' vote of members of the Parliamentary Labour Party. 172 MPs supported the 'no confidence' resolution. Corbyn got 40 votes. Was Rayner one of them? As the sitting leader of the party he didn't need MP nominations to stand (to challenge him) and was automatically on the ballot - up against Owen Smith - and won easily when the membership had a say.
Is 'the name' I mentioned Trevor Chinn? As I said he is closely linked to a lot of senior Labour MPs including Starmer, Cooper and half the Cabinet. Are you saying he has a particularly close relationship to Alex Barros-Curtis (ABC) - the parachuted in Cardiff West MP? ABC was heavily involved in the Starmer moves to expel and expunge Corbynites from Labour after Starmer won the leadership election and stoke the anti Semitism slurs. His reward was Cardiff West.
I agree that a lot of the people around and behind Starmer will be happy to see Rayner gone. They tried before and cocked it up. She has now done it to herself. But in my opinion she has more in common politically with Starmer than Corbyn - despite her flat share with Rebecca Long-Bailey and her role in Corbyn's Shadow Cabinet.
The term 'Corbynite' is open to interpretation and I suppose you are correct that she was never doctrinally a Corbynite.
All the same she was strongly associated with Jezza during his first couple of years as leader. Yes she is like Starmer - an unprincipled, bigheaded clever dick with a lust for power and few ideological red lines.
She was, after all, the woman who finally fell out with Corbyn over her plans to build housing on allotments, which is a terrible idea.
Thank God she has gone!
