    Trust Membership Increasing

Big membership take up recently. Unusual influx, if normal applications over the years are taken into account. Even fans from the other messageboard wanting to get involved. Trust, pun intended, that there’s no ulterior motive behind this.

It’s like something out of Succession or Game of Thrones, but far less exciting

The matter was discussed towards the end of this week’s City phone in.

Why not pass a rule now that insists members have to have 3 consecutive years of paid membership to be able to vote in any trust elections.

Having said that, if 54 new members (votes) is enough to cause concern at the trust then maybe there needs to be a new member recruitment drive over the coming months to dilute that concern.

There’s another ten or so waiting to be registered. I think the worry is that sixty odd members who would be prepared to vote as directed would be a winning number when it comes to elections for people to run the Trust. I don’t know what the figures have been for elections for Committee/elected posts etc in the past, but I doubt it if they amounted to sixty odd votes.

I rejoined the trust last month so I’m sure I’ll be in that group of 60, but I rejoined because I was fed up of the abuse certain committee members were receiving online for practically telling the truth.

And with the creation of the Fan Engagement and Club Heritage Protection aspects of the Football Governance Act, there’s every chance that trust members would be part of that engagement with the club, maybe even voting on kit designs/colours of the 2nd/3rd strips - because the club seems to get that wrong every year…

Are we sure there’s a sinister reason for this spike in new members, or have many of those c.60 members joined or rejoined for the same reasons as I have?

Either way, like I mentioned above, maybe votes for elected positions can only be cast by members with at least 3+ years consecutive membership. See how many of those 60 cancel their membership in the next 12 months.

From memory, you rejoined the Trust early last month before the current influx of members began and there are a small number of cases since then that have nothing to do with what's been going on over the past four weeks or so. I've been doing the registration work for new Trust members for something like fifteen years now and I've never seen such an influx of members over a short period of time before - you sometimes get a short term boost to members when the Trust is in the news for some reason (eg when the club chose to publicly criticise the Trust a few yw=ears ago), but this is different.

I'm only involved on the Admin side of thin gs at the Trust, I'm not on the Committee, so cannot comment too much on things like proposed rule changes, but, speaking for no one but myself, I think you'd be on a sticky wicket so to speak if you tried to introduce rules retrospectively sayting that you had to be in the Trust for a certain period of time before havuing the entitlement to vote in ballots for elected members of of the Committee, Chairman, Secretary etc.
