He's been "cleared" of match fixing twice, and will stand trial a third time. The most famous of these trials - involving a 3-0 win over Veria in 2013 - resulted in a Veria player being imprisoned for perjury. (This was around the time that Panathinaikos fans started a riot at an Olympiacos game - I wonder why - and the season was suspended).
He was also acquitted of entering the referee's dressing room at half time during the Greek cup final in 2014, when the score was 1-1. Marinakis told the judges he was simply wishing the referee "good luck", which the judges obviously deemed all well and good. Olympiacos went on to win 3-1.
(BTW - That's almost as good an excuse as his defence for spitting at a referee last season, where he told the review commission he had "developed a cough from smoking cigars". This was in England, though, not Greece, so he actually got punished for it).
He also blew up a referee's bakery in 2012 after Olympiacos lost to Xanthi, with the referee in question claiming he was told to fix the match.
Fit and proper, mind you, according to the EFL.
Oh I almost forgot, he's a defendant in an upcoming murder trial in November, after Olympiacos ultras killed a police officer after a basketball match in 2023. The charges against him are inciting violence, and funding a criminal gang.
Everything spilled out into the public domain when they clashed on the pitch after the Leicester game, the way Marinakis approached Nuno was intimidating and threatening,if someone is prepared to behave that way in public, who knows what goes on behind the scenes. What goes around comes around, sooner or later, most of these individuals go that step too far and it all comes tumbling down.
"Interesting?" That is incredible .....If I read that in a fiction novel I would say its a bit too far fetched for me .
If he is involved at all in any of it , he is a much bigger **** than I previously thought and a super dangerous human being .
I hope he gets what he deserves in life , such bad behaviour shouldn't be rewarded .
