Interesting to see that John Toshack made a rare public appearance at Real Sociedad, and received a hero’s welcome. He’s not been well and looks ill, to be honest, but it’s good to see him up and about. I did wonder what sort of reception he would get at Cardiff these days. To some he’d be a legend; to others, a Jack traitor; while there will be many who will remember him only as an ex-Wales manager. Bit sad, really.
Anyone who witnessed the Toshack/Clark years down the City will only have fond memories of Tosh. Very few if any Div 2 centre halves could cope with his aerial prowess and he was very underrated on the ground too. Liverpool knew they had a bargain when they signed him and his partnership with Keegan was pivotal for them.
As for his success with the Jacks, who cares, good luck to him, he was great for us and that's all that matters. I wish him well as he's obviously not in the best of health.
He wanted to Manage City, but the Board didn’t want him so he went to Swansea.
Magic player for city . I was totally gutted as a 17 year old when he was sold to Liverpool . We never got over it . Warboys came in too late .
Too young to see him play but thought he was great for Wales, and deserves some credit for what came after. He gave Bale and Rambo their debuts.
If you can imagine lots of crosses coming into the box and a City player being on the end of nearly all of them, that player was Toshack. I can't remember a single centre half who could compete in the air with him at the time. And his headers were powerful and invariably on target. A very sad time when he left us for Liverpool.
