Logging off now as I have stuff to do before heading to the pub for today's game, but I'll ask another question:
Why would any members of the existing Trust board or any other existing Trust members be opposed to a democratic election in the near future? What are they afraid of?
The opportunity for members to vote was there in May/June and will be again next year. I accept it may not be a perfect situation, but there have been a number of years where your father, or a member like me, could have brought about an election by standing as a candidate for a place on the Committee. I can’t speak for your father, but I’ve not done that because I’ve been satisfied with the work done by the serving Committee members.
It appears now that there is an element that feel differently. Fine, they have the right to challenge for a Committee place in an election process which will begin before the current season ends. What I don’t get is why they’re not prepared to wait for a relatively short period for the formal procedures that are already in place. Four or five months ago, they weren’t even members of the Trust, I’d like to know what has happened with the Committee since then to make them, first, join the Trust, and, second, make them demand an immediate election?
Have just renewed my membership after it lapsing a few years ago. Keen not to have the fans represented by rabble rousers with selfish agendas, see this as the best way to do so.
I have no skin in the game, I am part of the 90% that has next to zero interest in club politics, but may i recap to see if i understand.
Some of the trust's members are concerned that a sudden increase of an additional 70 members may affect the democratic stability of the trust?
The additional members want to force a vote on a spare board seat.
Some members are advocating a 2-year non-voting period in this democratic union or if they try to push a vote, bisbar them.
Some non-trust members believe the trust is a cosy club of gentlemen of a certain age and background who generally, eventually side with the club.
So if an incumbent board member's seat is up for election, he/she can say, "Hi, my name is x, and I have loved representing the trust for x years." The 450 trust members vote and the 350 in the "cosy" club just block vote the incumbant.
Or am I missing something?
Members have been asked each and every year to put their names forward for election to the Trust board so every member has had the chance to be elected for several years, most recently in May this year. The next chance will come in April or May next year where hopefully the recent influx of new members gives a better chance of more people putting their names forward for the three places that will be available.
Why, I can guarantee my name is not in the pile of new applicants.
Let's be honest, 70 is not going to make a difference, that's the point i am making. Any campaign from "the wrong types" isn't gaining much momentum.
As small as the trust is in members, the counterinsurgents are fewer!
Trust, FAB, Fans Parliament, or "the protesters," it's Vinnys club.
The trust march to Mehmet DalmanÂ’s drum beat, rightly or wrongly, but they will never stand against the club, theyÂ’ll never organize protests.
Arguing over memberships to a supporter organisation is a completely pointless exercise in the grand scheme of things.
Until Ken Choo and Tan are gone, nothing will change. The club will still be run in the same manner and nothing will change that. WeÂ’ve had a decade of this now.
I shall look forward to that Dave. Pity I didn't get a chance to call in the pub, after the game, to discuss it with you. It all seems a very odd affair. Do you happen to know if this new membership "surge" has been driven from a certain faction or particular individuals?
The Trust has never marched to" Mehmet Dalman`s drum beat" or indeed to any other board member at the club and never will. As for standing against the club , at one time the club owner told the club directors not to speak to the Trust as it was being publicly critical of him and the directors. For many years it was the only formal fans group that did so as the Supporters Club stated aim was to organise travel, ticketing and social events (which they have always done very well ) and stated that they didn`t wish to get involved in matters such as the corporate governance at the club. This has changed in the last couple of years as CCSC are now heavily involved, with the Trust, in the Fans Advisory Board (which the Trust helped set up).
As for organising protests , the Trust policy is the same as that of the Supporters Club. Both agree that we don`t tell our members what to do but leave it to individuals to make their own decisions on such matters.
To deal with future change, the Trust has worked for several years, both directly and through its membership of the national Football Supporters Association, to get the law changed to ensure that football clubs in the top five divisions of the English professional football pyramid have to have proper recorded consultation with their regulated fans organisations.. As a result the Football Governance Act has happened this year and the Trust has already established a link and relationship with people at the top of the Independent Regulator put in place under that Act.
As a consequence of the above, the Trust now can represent its members views from existing channels such as the FAB (where it has 2 of the 10 members) ,attendance at SLO meetings and direct contact with CCFC directors to now having direct input into club communication by the club with fans which will soon be a legal requirement if the club wishes to retain its licence to operate as a football club at the highest levels. It will continue to do so as a totally independent body, without any element of control by the club itself so that it can support the club in matters of benefit to our fans but be free to be critical of it as appropriate.
Primarily its members under its constitution but it also does lots of things on behalf of the wider fanbase including, but not limited to
1.Originating the Fred Keenor statue- three members of the Trust, including two of its board members oversaw the fundraising and construction work
2. Organising collections for local foodbanks - the one in December will be the 7th
3. Getting an alternative football shirt made at the time of "blue to red" as a protest with all profits to Ty Hafan
4. Setting up the Memorial Garden at the stadium which is beautifully maintained by the Veterans Society and continuing to support it financially and otherwise
5.Acting as part of the Fans Advisory Board which it helped to set up
6.Getting heavily involved for years with the process of law which has now led to the Football Governance Act this year which will gave far greater fan consultation powers to all fans.
Wouldn’t any organisation that has a steady increase/decrease in members over the years raise their eyebrows at such a large increase in applications over a short timescale? Such an organisation would be failing present members should they choose to ignore the reasons rather than blindly accept all comers without seeking a reason for such a scenario.
I’ve recently joined up simply because I wanted to make sure the clear vision for what I want for the club going forward is heard, especially after recent events.
The pushback by some posters in this thread regarding the recent uptake is something of an embarrassment and shows to me there is a need for a complete overhaul and reset.
