There was some discussion on here at the end of last season regarding the likely attendances at the CCS for matches in League One. Some believed crowd numbers would drop significantly, but so far they have been holding up pretty well.
I’ve been particularly impressed by the amount of away fans we’ve seen coming to the stadium this season. Provided we were doing reasonably well, I expected our home crowds would be decent enough, but I didn’t think our opponents would bring as many fans as most of them have.
City’s average home attendance in the Championship last season was 19,344. The average after seven home games this season is slightly higher at 19,403. That currently ranks as the third-largest average in League One. The top five are:
21,199 – Bolton Wanderers
21,125 – Bradford City
19,403 – Cardiff City
17,146 – Huddersfield Town
15,888 – Plymouth Argyle

Can't imagine the likes of Mansfield, Doncaster, Wigan and Wycombe will bring many, but some of the turnouts so far have been surprisingly good so it's difficult to be sure.

I thought they wouldn't change much from last season - some of the predictions at the end of last season were very pessimistic (I can remember talk of 14k or lower)
it'd be nice if we could build them up even higher, if we have a nice run at the top of the table.
I'm not sure those stats tell us much as the top teams (similar populations) have also had good starts to the season
Many away teams' fans will have been in the lower leagues for quite some time.
It seems only natural that they would want to visit a team like us who has been relatively successful for a number of years with good facilities and a new venue for them.
As has been mentioned, a team winning games and more importantly playing well, is bound to bring the crowds in no matter what division they play in.

I think your last sentence is very relevant, case in point would be Plymouth who have been pretty successful in recent seasons and have just come down with us.
I suspect lack of success of a longer period of time would show less fans of most teams.
The 19000 average last year..the was probably no more than 10000 actually in the ground for quite a few of those games.

If we stay top and get back to playing like the first few games, it will increase we have a lot of gloryhunters.

Down very slightly - last season was 19,499 after 7 games.
Even more impressive when you take into consideration that a lot of folk are struggling with the present cost of living.
1 adult and three kids or 2 adults and 2 kids is an expensive day/evening out, even allowing for our fairly priced ticketing.
Only an idiot would chase glory at Cardiff City.
The decent numbers of away fans doesn’t surprise me to be honest.
We are probably the most exciting prospect for most sets of fans as far as away days go this season, We’re one of the biggest clubs in the league, been in the premier league “fairly” recently, we have a nice large stadium, and as we haven’t been down at this level for 20 odd years, quite the novelty.
Saying that, quite how many fans clubs like Leyton Orient and Reading actually brought did impress me.
Our fans are always going to turn up in numbers if we are winning and playing better football, no matter what league, we’ve been starved of any consistent enjoyment at home games for so long people are just happy to look forward to games again.
I think that Cardiff as a City is also appealing. Be interested to know how many make a weekend of it.
Quite right. They’d even pay the tourist tax for a few days in our lovely country.
