The article is a little more resemblant to your first hypothesis that they were drones the size of SUVs that appear to be man-made but are too big for hobbyists.They are also capable of remaining in the air for 10 hours or more and travel large distances, though!
No Truthpaste has never agreed on date setting of any kind; certainly the Bible provides incredible details on many events that are happening and are yet to happen including drones, forms of deception, nuclear fallout and the key nations to look for as history comes to a close. The thing to note is the Bible (to date) has a 100% track record on fulfilled future events, so if you want to know the things to be looking for, then becoming familar with the 25% of the Bible that speaks on these things is not a bad idea.
