This thread has been an education. A couple individuals have shown their true colours (and their levels of intelligence), while a couple more have underlined theirs. It's also helped me to finally re-evaluate the way in which I use this message board, and that's something which has been long overdue, so overall it's been beneficial.

    My simple definitions would be:

Anyone who enters the UK by any method and surrenders to the authorities in a bid to seek protection and/or asylum = a refugee or asylum seeker.

Anyone who enters the UK by any method and attempts to avoid the authorities = an illegal immigrant.

Anyone who stays in the UK and attempts to avoid the authorities after the expiration of a valid visa or a failed asylum application = an illegal immigrant.

Of course, it’s a very complicated subject, but I feel the phrase ‘illegal immigrant’ is used by large swathes of the public and by politicians and the populist media far too often and far too glibly. As far as I’m aware, seeking asylum is not an illegal activity under international law, but the UK currently has no safe or sensible routes to do so.

There is no doubt whatsoever that the asylum system and immigration in general are issues that need addressing in one way or another, and the current situation is very far from satisfactory, but things need to be kept in perspective and that’s not happening. Immigrants of every description have increasingly been demonised and in many respects dehumanised in recent years, while a lot of the so-called facts and figures that have been peddled by the politicians, the populist media and their paymasters are simply fiction.

Approximately 37,000 people have arrived in the UK this year by small boat. To put that figure into some sort of perspective, Celtic had a crowd of 48,000 last night for a Europa League game against Sturm Graz. I was watching a panel discussion last week during which it was revealed that the current asylum system accounts for around 0.4% of the government’s annual expenditure. Therefore, for every Ł100 we pay in tax, it effectively costs us 40p. Nevertheless, this is the issue that is plastered all over the media day in and day out, it’s the issue Reform and the far right want us to concentrate on, and it’s the issue a significantly large percentage of the country’s population seems to believe is the biggest problem we have to solve.

The irony is that the people these deluded dummies will attempt to vote into power are the liars and frauds who are most ill-equipped to deal with it. In many cases, they are the very same maggots who told us that Brexit would be the solution to all our problems. That went well….
I guess Ł15 billion is nothing for such a rich country with no debts, no housing crisis and a booming economy……let them come we’ve nothing else to spend it on really, everything is great here

Why is it you come across as some kind of MB royalty, that shouldn’t really be conversing with the peasants? It seems your interpretation of other posters having a difference of opinion with you is to describe ithem as “showing their true colours”. A rather dark insinuating term.

What percentage of immigrants do you think behave like this?

Do you think all British people are characterised by Jimmy Saville and Harold Shipman ?

You can interpret my contributions in whatever way you like, I genuinely couldn't care less. I certainly don't regard myself as CCMB royalty, but you're right about one thing - I really shouldn't be conversing with somebody like you, and from this point onwards I won't.

Message boards like this one often get described as being like online pubs, which is not particularly accurate as far as I'm concerned, although I can understand the analogy. The thing is, if this was a real pub, I wouldn't waste any of my time talking to someone who was remotely like you and no doubt that feeling is mutual. So why do we waste our time talking to each other on here? It's genuinely futile.

In your jungle, I'm just another monkey. In my world, you're nothing at all, so that's the end of that.

Let me think about those 2 questions. Err, not sure, and neither are the government, and no.
Shipman and Saville were home grown sicko’s, and we all know we’ve had many of our home grown sickos.
My beef is , and should be yours, we are now importing foreign sickos and giving them carte blanch to run amok. Were these Romanians checked out when they arrived? Did they come here to work ? Were they checked for criminal activity before they arrived?
We have thousands and thousands of immigrants who have entered the UK illegally who still haven’t been processed. The back log is yrs not days.
So excuse me for mine and plenty of others concerns about the migrant situation.
You just go carry on burying your head in the sand sonny.
Now post your usual drivel of a reply, and we’ll leave it at that.

The reason for the huge backlog is the conservative government from 2010 to 2024

The processing level under them was criminal

Most of your questions should be directed towards those responsible but instead you are just going to vote reform

I will leave it at that
