There's a real paucity of any statistics about this game, on any of the sites I usually go on. Even basic things like the number of shots each side had doesn't seem to be anywhere.

Even the vertu trophy games had more coverage than this. I wonder why it is.

I mean I was thinking more along the lines of a rights issue, or that there are too many games in this round at grounds without the correct facilities to gather the opta data or equivalent, but yeah I'll go with a conspiracy, can it be something to do with the magnetic poles?

CR should have scored from distance when their GK miskicked,..but he fluffed his lines.
Second half I felt we were going to equalise, but the usual problem of not producing the last ball surfaced.
Ashford played well on the left, but with no one to cross to, it became futile.
After the usual 60th minute changes, we never looked like scoring.
We've lost 1 0 to Burton..Newport..and Peterborough...all bottom of the league at the time of playing.
On a plus side, we witnessed a Turnbull pass that went forward....Murphy probably bollocked him for that.
Thanks for the brief summary, as others have said there’s been so little coverage / comment on the game. That is a weird stat that we’ve lost 1-0 3 times this season to teams bottom of the league at that time!

Mistake number 1, you're talking sense and using logic, initially... I was thinking it could be something to do with Prince Andrew and the New World Order, I reckon I can make it spin and there would be a fair few on here who would go with it. What's not to like?

On Saturday the BBC site provided no in-game stats and only came alive to record the start and end of each half, the goal, and the substitutions. No possession, shots, corners...etc.

I think the BBC and Sky (and other stats apps) use Opta. From what I can see Opta use a combination of real people at games, AI, and clever programmes to record events in televised matches.

On Saturday the only FA Cup game which wasn't working for stats updates was ours. Maybe something as simple as the designated human didn't turn up or became ill? Maybe they forgot to plug something in? Maybe its an early sign that AI is out to ruin Saturdays (although Posh goals do that too)?

Yes In have noticed that Opta has become more ubiquitous when it comes to stats - a few years ago some sites used different sources for the data, but it all seems to be Opta these days.
The problem with that I guess is when it doesn't work you get a total blackout.

We had a Matchday thread on here during the game, and i presume that people were watching the game. There was one comment on the game, "Fish, shit defending" that was it.

The blase attitude to this defeat from some is a bit odd. Sure, the FA Cup isn't top of City's list of priorities, I get that, but what harm would a decent run in the competition have done?

The Chelsea game in the League Cup is an exciting prospect, but let's be honest - it'll be long odds-on that we get beaten. Therefore, the only cup football of any sort we'll be likely to have until next season is the Vertu Trophy nonsense.

I reckon a couple of FA Cup games against either Championship or Premier League opponents could have aided in the side's development, but it sounds like Saturday's performance was another sterile effort all round.

If we discount the Vertu Trophy, our form in the last ten games is won 5, drawn 1, lost 4. If we're being truthful, during the last two months the levels of the team's performances haven't been great on the whole. There have been a couple of genuinely decent performances, most notably in the League Cup against clubs from a higher level who were fielding weakened sides, but there have been some poor ones too. City are certainly inconsistent at present.

Should we go through in the Vertu we will be carrying at least one postponed game into the second half of the season. If we'd gone through on Saturday we'd be have been carrying 2 over (as it has turned out Huddersfield looks like it will be rearranged for the 2nd round weekend) with a high probability that neither of these would have been played before the 3rd round which could still be postponed, should Orient progress.

We have a small squad, it would've done quite a bit of harm, in my opinion.

I just don't get this line of thinking at all. Footballers playing football? Heaven forbid.

Back in 1992/93, City's first team played one FA Cup game (the embarrassing defeat to Bath), two League Cup games, three Autoglass Trophy games, two ECWC games and six Welsh Cup games. We won the league. In 1975/76, it was four FA Cup games, two League Cup games and eight Welsh Cup games. We were promoted.

Are players really so fragile now that playing games regularly is beyond them?
