But, again, that's not the point. All most people are saying is that immigration should be better managed which is met with cries of racism and selective examples of why everything's dandy.

Can't really help with the last paragraph; maybe you should ask them.
You often hear people shouting out " the country has had enough , everyone is talking about immigration , its gone too far the other way now ,everyone I know is voting reform "

The fact around 30 percent vote for a right wing anti immigration party ....reform .....indicates that around 70 percent dont

Lots of people in the UK are undoubtedly saying immigration should be better managed, I'm of that opinion myself, but do most of the population think that way? I reckon you're over-estimating the British public there. Immigration is a major topic for many and an obsession for some, but I'm pretty sure similar numbers either don't have any firm opinions on the subject or couldn't care less. I think the recent election results once again demonstrated that's the case.

As for cries of racism, many people are open to reasonable debate on the subject of immigration, but many are also able to see certain arguments, individuals and political movements for exactly what they are. Meanwhile, I think the percentage of people who believe everything's dandy is somewhere between tiny and non-existent
Here where I live I've probably seen a "non white face" maybe once in the last month and had no interaction with that person at all. No one of a "non white" racial group has ever caused me any harm. On the other hand there have been some "white" people who have annoyed me over the years.

Why should immigration even be something I should consider, let alone get upset about?

Whenever there's a debate on immigration, diversity is suggested as a positive thing but it's a digression at best.
how is saying diversity is a positive being digression? if you believe that we are a better place overall for having many different influences (reggae + post punk = ska for example) then diversity is to be welcomed.

For some people diversity means giving all the best jobs to them blacks, jews, chinks and us poor white plebs can sweep the streets etc and be happy with it....it means nothing of the sort. Diversity means embracing the best parts of different cultures and making our own culture the sum of them all combined.

I would be very surprised if any part of your life did not have non UK (i.e. white) influence

How many times do we hear of Sikhs giving out food on Christmas day - a day which means nothing to them....that's just one example of how different cultures integrate and embrace our own.

I’ll lighten up the thread with a bit of humour.
3 expectant Dads waiting nervously outside a maternity ward. An English man, a Welsh man and a Pakistani man.
After all 3 women give birth, a doctor appears in the corridor, and announces to the 3 Dads, that there has been a bit of a mix up, and nobody is sure who's baby is who’s.. He says “ we’ve decided to let you sort it out yourselves.
The English man rushes into the ward, and quickly appears holding what even to the naked eye, appears to be the Pakistani baby. The Pakistani man even comments” i think you have my baby”
The Englishman replies “ listen mate. There’s a Welsh baby left in there, and i aint taking any chances!!”

I bump into a few other dog walkers up here and generally the conversation tends to be about local gossip, sport and current affairs with immigration barely getting a mention. However, since the Senedd election I’ve had two conversations with the same man who seems to want to bring every conversation around to immigration. Yet, I asked him how many families living on my street of about seventy houses would you say were clearly immigrants? All I could think of one non white family who seem fine based on my very limited dealings with them and a very nice Polish family who have been very nice and kind to me in the last eight years. Apart from that, the shop nearby which sells anything and everything is run by a Pakistani family and that’s all of the possible immigrants I know of in my village.

I could never get too worked up about immigration when I lived in far more cosmopolitan Cardiff, so it follows that the subject is something that is way down my list of priorities. Higher up on my list is the fear that as I look no different to many who took part in last night’s shocking disturbances in Belfast, people may think I share their opinions when it comes to race. Are there more racists about these days? I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure that there ia an atmosphere around in which racists feel more comfortable letting the rest of us know of their racism.

Fair enough, they were broad statements so I'll take them back. If we're all agreed it's about immigration management then cool.

Maybe it's alright where you are and not working in other places?

It's a digression from the practical application and issues of immigration.

Day 2 of riots. Drag the instigators away from their computers and into a jail cell. Even bigger cowards than the active perpetrators.
