    More details emerging this morning.

Raising a toast at a leaving do "was essential for work purposes", the former prime minister tells a panel investigating him.

He’s on par with Matt Hancock for lying.

He's digging a few holes for himself now the detailed questions are coming.

The opening statement was confident and rehearsed, but once the bullshit is exposed he starts to bluster, contradict himself and speak over the members of the Privileges Committee.

What is really coming through is his belief (self-deception) that No 10 Downing Street was an exceptional place with exceptional rules that didn't apply anywhere else - whilst at the same time denying that was the case. He's doubling down on that and seems to have no sense of how that plays.

I'm not sure if all the interruptions are helping or hindering Johnson.

It's always the lying that gets them in the end. In four hours he can get through a lot of lies.

He's trying to justify that holding a gathering for a leaving do is a justifiable and necessary workplace event.
              It's painful.

Ultimately people in “normal “ jobs would have probably been dismissed for what he did.

Lockdown and a wrecked economy for a virus that he , clearly, wasn't frightened of.

It’s hard to believe so many people followed this without question.

he's never been good with detail, completely unsuitable for the role really

Did he really say that he thought there were “office gatherings” which the social distancing rules did not apply to?

I'm glad I've never been invited to a lefty party, the most boring ever, anyone for a prawn sandwich at a distance for two minutes half a shandy then off upstairs on their own?

In the normal World that's not a party by the way

Clearly broke the rules as did most of the Country, it was stupid, he should have known better.

It is plain daft to call them parties, they were gatherings, but still, against the rules, he was very stupid to say one thing and then do another, without banning cameras and swearing people to silence and making sure they were not fully covered up, but he probably thought it would never get out, which is also very daft.

Of course, it is blown out of all proportion though, more than half the Country broke one rule or another, including previous people commenting pretending to be holier than thou!
