  • Election Prediction

At best I think the Tories will be ousted but Labour won't have enough to rule and will have to form a coalition with the liberals and the other parties

I wouldn't mind that at all . I will vote for whatever candidate will beat the conservatives .

It's incredible that after all these years of nonsense from them the opposition is not able to win a clear majority but I saw Question Time last night and whilst the tory panel member was utterly inept and there for a kicking , the Labour shadow leader of the House......a senior Labour big hitter ......was absolutely hopeless

The Labour party should be demolished and a left of centre or moderate opposition probably nearer liberal in nature than left wing should be established . In that way the opposition can be a group of people with anti tory values and be united instead of a split vote which keeps the conservatives in power

Labour are not taking about electoral pacts or minority government or coalition but they should be because that's going to be the reality

The worst case scenario of course would be a tory government , again

I find that unbelievable but I think the above together with the utter hopelessness of starmer may well let them in again

If that happens I will be done with all of them

      Re: Election Prediction

A lot can happen between now and the election.

The public mood (from opinion polls and local elections) is more anti Tory than pro Labour.

Despite Starmer and the grotesque Tory-lite vision offered by Labour, I expect a small Labour majority, or at worst a Labour-led minority government (Lab-Lib confidence and supply deal).

            Re: Election Prediction

Apart from the last election which delivered a big tory majority on the back of 'getting Brexit done' , they've only had a majority once (in 2015). They've been in power effectively by the skin of their teeth with help from the Lib Dems first and then the DUP.
This time I think it will be Labour getting in with the help of others (prob the Lib Dems).

                    Re: Election Prediction

Interestingly, Labour have been denying they would negotiate with the SNP and more coy when it comes to what would happen with the Lib Dem’s. I’d be surprised if it is true, but, apparently, Labour’s manifesto will not carry a promise to bring in PR, but, again, they’re being less forthright about what happens after that.

I don’t like making political predictions, but, after last week’s elections, a Conservative majority Government looks like a bit of a long shot.

Some of the predictions on there look very worrying for the tories, mind you their predictions for the local elections were for the tories to lose just over 300 seats, so that wasn't that accurate

                        Re: Election Prediction

Too early to tell in my opinion. I suspect though that the polls will narrow, the very difficult conditions of the last 3 years will very likely improve, allowing for some targeted tax cuts or extra spending etc. I suspect most statistics will improve from where we are now.

I don't think it will make much difference who is in to be honest, but I suspect a healthy Labour majority. Probably not quite 1997 levels but not far off.

they always say that the last 18 months before any election is much more important in the publics memory when it comes to an election, so the tories will be pulling some tax cuts out of their arses soon.

Yeah absolutely. I know some of you disagree, but the economic issues of the last 3 years really are external factors and they have impacted every govt, many of whom have been voted out across Europe and the world. So those things really should improve.

The other stuff; Johnson, parties, whiff of corruption etc..if Sunak can stamp it out, then that criticism will disapper Into the background too, at least for many.

I think Labour will comfortably win, but it's like saying who will win the 2024 cup final - Man City of Chelsea. No one would predict Chelsea if asked, but everyone knows by that point the situation could be different
