  • Tonight's election TV debate

It's a clear mistake to allow these idiots to talk freely over each other

They just can't be trusted to shut it and speak when it's their turn

Green and Liberal representatives were both competent and pleasant

Farage is a one trick pony

Plaid , SNP again one trick ponies , both gave labour a lot of stick because they are the biggest threat ......I think it's obvious the SNP are losing ground big time and Plaids support will again be very small

So the minority parties after the election and Labour should work together as unless the electoral system changes that's the way its going to be .......keep out the Tories

Penny Mourdant .......she's got some bare faced cheek bringing up tax plans after her boss lied about them the other day

Raynor is hopeless , had a chance to nail mourdant over the false tax plans .......blew it and got involved in a shouting match with her

Thankfully not too many of these debates left

Agree with most of that. Penny Mordaunt looked like a leader though. Good tone. Tall straight back. Excellent answers and delivery, with a deeper tone, phrase-spacing, and calm and assured.

Not that it makes a jot of difference as not only will they be whooped but it is probable she will lose her seat, and with it the UK will lose an excellent politician who balances conservatism with social liberalisn and fairness.

For a laugh though, Daisy Cooper. Other than the fact that I would struggle to take anyone seriously called Daisy as it reminds me of the dippy booby bird from The Dukes of Hazard, I was scratching my head as to who she reminded me of. It was fhe skinny squashed shape of the head. I knew it was a film but it took me until ten minutes from the end to work it out. Then I realized, she reminded me of the other-worldy Muun banking clan from Star Wars…

So there we have it. Daisy Cooper is a Muun.

I can't be doing with the likes of penny mourdant

She's just another public school tory

And I think her bringing up the tax lie used by sunak and ridiculed by everyone was a bit of a joke just a shame raynor was too dopey to nail her for it

SNP - one of my least favourite politicians. I cannot stand him, horrible bloke. But did very well in fairness and played the audience well.

Lib Dems - Daisy Cooper is quite meek but pleasant enough and strangely tonight that came off reasonably well

Reform - Farage did alright. Wasnt aggressive, made his points but no killer speeches. Gave a good early rebuttal to Rhun ap Iorwerth. May be slightly disappointed overall

Conservatives - Mordaunt - she is a smart woman, showed humility and didn't sugar coat it and was pretty combative in debating to be fair. Impossible job but probably helped to plug the sinking ship

Labour. Rayner - I thought she was a little off par and seems to lack a bit of confidence, almost as if it's a case of being 2-0 and holding onto a lead. I am torn on her, but she is normally a good speaker. Not at her best

Greens. She seems a pleasant lady but the holes in their argument are so wide but the other parties don't pull them apart as too busy with themselves. She will be happy. She did okay, didn't sound batty and seems a nice lady

Plaid. So so. Competent guy but no one really cares much for Plaid or Wales it seems. There is some interest in the performance of the WG but he is in a rather neutral position of part knocking them and part supporting them. Didn't have much to say

I'm pretty certain she did not go to private school. She has a very interesting back story actually.

She went to a Catholic Comprehensive Sludge

Father an ex paratrooper who became a teacher then social worker

Mother an ex special needs teacher who died of hreast cancer when Penny was 15 at which point she became the primary caregiver for her younger brother.

Don't assume all Tory MP's are public school.

Yes,I have mentioned some of her background in a separate post James.

She is Southern but not posh. I don’t believe she was privately schooled either. I think she is lovely and charming. On a non-platonic side her weight would put me off. Possibly a five or six pinter for me.

But I think she is a good catch for you, old chum. Now that you know she was state schooled I think you might develop a soft spot for her. Make sure you don’t put on your old indie German army jacket, and perhaps leave your copy of Das Kapital at home and you never know, you might be in with a shout?

Big melons - a tick for you. She likes her bands - big tick for you. Big hair - another tick for you. I reckon if she bent over a table, dropped her nether cloth and yelled “There is my taco now give me your big burrito, Neath boy” I think you’d be all over it, panting like a sniffer dog on an airport cocaine haul.

Her dad a teacher and youth worker?

Her mum a special needs teacher?

If it was a Labour politician with such a background you would be praising them!

You don't get an accent like hers by being normal

                          She's very posh

If she didn't go to public school she's spent most of her life hanging around with people who did

Her old man was in the paras ? I would be very surprised if he wasn't an officer

                            ]

You don't half talk some round objects sometimes Sludge.

You seem obsessed with the notion that Tories have to be posh because of the way they talk!

Now she has to have been around posh people because of it and her father must have been an officer.

From what I can see, her father was just a Paratrooper (no story I have seen say he was an officer) and as I said he was a teacher, who became a youth worker.

Perhaps there is a posh youth workers club in Portsmouth!

incidentally she is related to two prominent Labour MP's from the early 20th century, Philip Snowden first Labour Chancellor and George Lansbury Labour leader. Very posh!

Sludge, all you’ve got to do with Mordaunt if you want to criticise her isgo on and on about her bizarre speech to the Conservative Party conference last year. Had no intention of watching last night’s shambles, but I always think of Mordaunt as being one of the few competent current day Tories, however I’ve heard it said on a couple of podcasts that she is lazy with a short attention span, hence her record in Cabinet which has seen her moved around such a lot.
