Re: Starmer Seems More Relaxed
It probably is needed but honestly any scheme that addresses the root problem and gets off the ground will be something.Originally posted by Citizen's Nephew View PostIt’s social housing we desperately need. Just building private housing isn’t the answer. A mass Social Housing initiative to reverse the sale of Council Housing during the 80s. Nobody’s addressed this. It needs to be massive, UK wide, and legislation brought in that it is illegal to sell social houses. They are built to be recycled.
Mass expansion of first homes scheme would be welcome. Buy your home at a large discount, discount passed on when you sell, priority given to people with local ties. We need to get away from houses being an asset and should punitively tax anybody who tries to exploit it, housing needs to be for people not profit.

That solution is so obvious that nobody would fall for it.Originally posted by Citizen's Nephew View PostIt’s social housing we desperately need. Just building private housing isn’t the answer. And absolutely ensuring that people pleading housing need and awarded social housing are not able to buy the bloody place a few years later
That makes my blood boil

Well the tory government are the ones who have increased prison sentences and stuffed the jails to breaking point without increasing spacesOriginally posted by Alfresco View PostA bit too relaxed for my liking, thinking Biden is compos mentis and releasing jail birds early. What ever next
We either let low level offenders out under restriction or things get worse and worse

The money isn't there for central government to do thisOriginally posted by Citizen's Nephew View PostIt’s social housing we desperately need. Just building private housing isn’t the answer. Higher taxes would enable that but most of the country are fooled by low taxation
The best at present is high levels of private housing with 25 percent social housing agreement
Jon ?

That’s not good enough. It’s constantly kicking the can down the road. We need 75% Social Housing….and we need to increase taxes.Originally posted by SLUDGE FACTORY View PostThe money isn't there for central government to do this

But the crap thrown at labour from the tory election machine regarding tax rises showed what people think of investment in housing , nhs , social services

Re: Starmer Seems More Relaxed
Labour spent months and months criticising the "Tory Tax Burden". That's the problem, they criticised everything and it will be very difficult for them to change anything without at least being hypocrites about it.Originally posted by SLUDGE FACTORY View PostI agree with you totally

Well they have to criticise, they are in oppositionOriginally posted by JamesWales View PostLabour spent months and months criticising the "Tory Tax Burden". But now in government I would give it a few years then tell it as it is and spend
It might lead to the usual tory moans but with the majority labour have I say go for it

Re: Starmer Seems More Relaxed
That’s not true. It’ll be easy. The Tories constantly shifted the goal posts for 14 years. They were masters at changing the narrative and did so along with Prime Ministers. They sold the lie in 2010 that there was no money. At least this time if Labour turn round and state that Social Care, the NHS, housing, education and prisons are much worse than they could have possibly imagined then it’ll be true.Originally posted by JamesWales View PostLabour spent months and months criticising the "Tory Tax Burden". Re: Starmer Seems More Relaxed
They don't have to criticise. If they think taxes should be higher to pay for public services they can say that.Originally posted by Citizen's Nephew View PostAgreed 👍
Probably would have cost a few votes but perhaps it would have been more honest
This is the problem that I have been quite consistent in saying: I can see many of the things Labour criticised the Tories for being replicated under them.
