Re: Jesus we love you
Did Jenrick really say that? Can you provide a reference please - I would be interested to read it!Originally posted by Dorcus View PostRobert Jenrick thinks anyone who utters the phrase should be clamped in irons for using terrorist language. Is he embarking on a war against religion now?

I don't think TP needs me to stand up for him but what makes you think his replies on Christian matters makes it all about himself? It seems to me that his replies are all about Jesus.Originally posted by Alan Lung View PostFor fcuk's sake truthpaste, why do you have to hijack every jesus thread and make it all about you?

I'm not great at posting links I'm afraid but yes he did say it (although in a foreign language) but if you look at any online content the story is still current. You could try the Independent which is neutral in political stance in case anyone thinks it's biased reporting.Originally posted by Gofer Blue View PostDid Jenrick really say that? Re: Jesus we love you
I think in this case because the thread had nothing to do with the epistemology, ethics, metaphysics or doctrine of any particular religion but was a reference to a purely political belief.Originally posted by Gofer Blue View PostI don't think TP needs me to stand up for him but what makes you think his replies on Christian matters makes it all about himself? Philosophical debates about Christianity or any other religion are fascinating but this thread had zero connection to any of those. Rather, it was highlighting a dubious political opinion.

Re: Jesus we love you
OK have had a look. As far as I can Jenrick is referring to the expression Allahu Akbar the Arabic phrase used by Muslims to mean "God is great". Don't see Jesus get a mention. I have a Syrian friend who uses that expression I suppose in the same way we Christians would say Jesus loves you. Unfortunately Allahu Akbar also seems to be the favoured expression of extremist Muslims such as suicide bombers but to try to ban the use of the expression is ludicrous surely!Originally posted by Dorcus View PostI'm not great at posting links I'm afraid but yes he did say it (although in a foreign language) but if you look at any online content the story is still current. Re: Jesus we love you
Allah = Jesus, think of the Trinity. Allahu Akhbar is shouted out as a demonstration of faith. Some people mistakenly consider it a call to arms and it is not. It's the equivalent of calling out "Jesus we love you" in Arabic and it's denunciation is an attack on religious freedom. This ironically by the way from a member of the party which claims to passionately espouse freedom of speech.

Somehow I doubt that but I'll ask my Syrian friend and let you know.Originally posted by Dorcus View PostAllah = Jesus, think of the Trinity. Allahu Akhbar is shouted out as a demonstration of faith. Re: Jesus we love you
Your last point is absolutely correct: it is ludicrous. However, it is also discriminatory and ignorant. Politicians attempting to pontificate on religious expressions of belief are way out of their death and troublesome. Pun intended by the way. 👍Originally posted by Gofer Blue View PostOK have had a look. Indeed they are, but this isn't only a problem in political circles, it highlights the fact that our society knows more details about the Harry Potter series than it does the basic elements of the three Abrahamic faiths.Originally posted by Dorcus View PostYour last point is absolutely correct: it is ludicrous. I think "our society" increasingly considers both to be part of the fantasy genre.Originally posted by truthpaste View PostIndeed they are, but this isn't only a problem in political circles, it highlights the fact that our society knows more details about the Harry Potter series than it does the basic elements of the three Abrahamic faiths.
