Is there a £22bn ‘black hole’ in the UK’s public finances? https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2e12j4gz0o
That is an interesting take on the report you linked!

The BBC report gives an explanation of the 'black hole' figure used by Labour - and how/why it went up from £9.5bn in February (the one the OBR recognised) to £21.9bn in July. It doesn't claim the Labour number is a lie; it just quotes Paul Johnson saying that the Treasury/government may have 'overegged' it a bit in the re-calculation.

I am no cheerleader for this government, but this attack line seems pretty lame.

What are their 'vanity projects'? The infrastructure projects referenced in the budget speech yesterday all sound very sensible to me.

Train drivers and Civil Servants are happy. A Public Sector raid from the private sector is bad for growth, and a terrible budget as expected. Thankfully won't affect me too much other than Pensions will count for IHT, so I'll have to make some alternative dodges and transfer assets earlier. I'm glad she didn't raid Pension tax-free cash or higher rate pension tax relief through salary sacrifice which was being considered.

She'll wast the money as expected, what a waste or time.

It's been delayed a day but the markets aren't reacting so well today.

I don't think the whole thing is landing as well as I thought it did yesterday.

When Rachel Reeves proudly took to the floor as the first British female chancellor ever to deliver a budget I wonder if in her wildest dreams she'd have thought that discussion of it would be sidelined by a debate over whether Sludge is fat or not

It was only ever half that amount and some of that is conjecture….we all know they like to fudge it, they all do it, Tories just as bad if you look at overspending they’ve all done it every year anyway which is why the country is in debt…..so go start with we apparently need About 3000 more doctors…..lets see how they do in a few years

Bank of England base rate cut bets reduced, cuts will be slower and recovery slower also, what a mess.
