  • Online Safety Act

I usually run a VPN to show that I’m in the UK, primarily to prevent shite adverts and pop ups that I would get here and other places.
It’s also good while being a pain in the arse with the cookie GDPR thing.

I just tried to view a menu for a place I’m going for lunch tomorrow and it’s blocked.
    Took off the vpn…no problem.

It seems a bit of an overreach to me.

    Any thoughts about it?

Is this the one Farage is crying about at the moment and complaining people are accusing him of being a Jimmy Saville sympathiser ?

If it pisses him off thats great

I’ve no idea if Farage is pissed off or not.
It seems as though you have to upload Id or have your photo taken to access any sites deemed 18+.

In this day and age I wouldn’t fancy it.
I can imagine VPN sales going through the roof.

You are always going on about Nazis, but saying "if you don't support this policy then you support paedophiles" is exactly what people unfairly throw at people like Sadiq Khan and other Labour politicians.

You have to do better than that.

It was a deliberately provocative response. The gossamer skinned brute responded like the kind of snowflake he accuses his opponents.

I would much rather politics was argued with the rules designed on the "playing fields of England". However, Trump and others have shown that the devil often has the best tunes. Farage has got away far too long spitting out any invective and using the social media operation that was so effective in Brexit to do the rest.

The Democrats in part lost by playing Queensberry Rules. Good to see a rabbit punch that landed!

A deliberately provocative response from Peter Kyle?

I dont think im cool enough to have been affected by it. Reddit ukpolitics sub is thread after thread of outrage directed at it and i havent even noticed its existence.

I think politicians are a bit behind the curve if they think kids are more at risk from adult content than the imo brain altering addiction of short form content, interweaving of gambling into everything online and just the general, mostly negative, societal effects of social media. I feel like im in a cohort of one whenever i mention these things as a problem, time will tell.

Just checking! Yeah I agree. And I totally agree Farage gives as good as he gets but labelling someone a supporter of Jimmy Savile for not supporting a very specific, and some may say (not me) authoritarian policy is pretty disgraceful really. Really poor rhetoric

But he doesn't give as good as he gets. That's the point. He is, if you excuse the oft used analogy on here "a BTec Trump". He spews out in any direction but if he gets it back he is on his hind heels demanding apologies for the same kind of shit he dregs up every day!

I dunno, he's a combative politician but he gets more than he gives and im pretty sure he hasn't labelled someone a paedophile supporter, although people close to him no doubt have in respect of the grooming gangs enquiries inquiry etc.

Kyle should apologise I think, esp as he's in government. People will just throw the same at them otherwise.

No, he probably hasn't labelled someone a paedophile supporter, just labelled lots of other people with equally dodgy badges with no constraint and milking votes on the back of it. Like I said, from my perspective, the more you fight fire with fire rather than let there be one flavour of poison then so be it because there is arisk where goes Uncle Sam there goes us!

When both the left and the right are united in their disdain for a piece of legislation, you know there must be something up. So, enter the Online Safety Act: a law so riddled with corruption, incompetence, and authoritarianism that you’d be forgiven for agreeing with Nigel Farage....
