Can this be moved to the other board, I don't even want to see the guy's name on here to be honest.

I made the mistake of reading the judge's summing up on the case that someone posted on here years ago, and it was horrific, I was genuinely traumatised for days.

I don’t think the parent of someone who has done what he has is relevant. There are very, very few people who I would want to suffer a violent death, but absolutely I would for him

Most people love their children unconditionally. Some folk here obviously don't.

If the utter nightmare scenario unfolded where one of my own children were found guilty of such despicable acts, I don't think I could say I would want to see them die a slow painful death because of it. I can't see how any parent could for the reason I stated above. Spend the rest of their days in prison for sure, but not a slow painful death.

Watkins was a monster - but a monster who was behind bars and serving the sentence that the court imposed.

Murdering any prisoner is not a good thing. It is another crime.

I can understand why some people, especially those who in some way are victims of Watkins, or have their own experiences that made his crimes very personal would be glad that he is dead. That he is no longer a 'threat', even though locked away.

What I can't understand is the mindset of people who publicly fantasise about the sexual mutilation and torture of another human being - even if that person was a monster.

The skin of civilisation is very thin at times! But maybe that is just my woolly liberalism showing above the parapet?

I think that depends on whether unconditional love exists as anything other than a concept. It'd certainly be put to the test in that scenario. As much as I would like to believe it does and believe me, there is a lot I could forgive or at least try to, I'm pretty sure that raping babies would be stepping over the line for me I'm afraid.

It's fair to say that in that scenario my judgement would be impaired anyway, so maybe I wouldn't see that the person was so vile as to be subhuman. Who knows. I hope I never find out. But I'll continue to believe that someone capable of those crimes isn't worth oxygen.

also jon1959 you normally speak a lot of sense, and given my left-leaning I would most often agree with you re letting the justice system take it's course, but there are some instances that are just too evil.

Nobody can say how they’d react to this horrific scenario, unless it happens to them.
It would be very interesting to find out how Watkins parents ( if they are still alive) have dealt with 1. His abhorrent crimes, and 2. His violent death.
How has Fred and Rose West’s children handled what they did?
How do Peter Sutcliffe's family feel about his crimes?
Being a parent myself, I do know how unconditional love feels, but there has to be limits. (Which sounds contradictory).
My Step mum (yrs before she met my Dad), discovered her 21yr old son was dealing drugs from the family home.She told him he had 2 choices. Move out, or stay and stop dealing. She told him that if he she caught him doing it again, she’d call the police. He didn’t take the warning seriously, and when she caught him again, she stuck to her word and got the police involved. He got arrested, got fined and got a suspended jail sentence.He left home and told his mother he’d never see her, or speak to her again.
He stuck to his word. 35 yrs later she died during Covid, without ever seeing him or hearing from him again. She didn’t even know if he was still alive.
I asked her before she died, if she’d ever regretted her course of action. Her reply was, it’s broken my heart, but if she had her time all over again, she’d have still done the same thing.
Take from that what you will.

I mean there is the middle ground where we could teach them not to rape kids, right?
