Re: The New Normal
I think we really need to start studying what exactly causes this, and I do think it's overexposure and over-dependence on the internet.
Don't get me wrong, the internet is an incredibly useful place at times, but it's also very isolating and hazardous to people, especially young people's mental health.
This isn't a left/right ideological thing, or a religious thing, I think it just speaks to young people feeling marginalised and held down in society and how it's structured.

I would leave it to the police , psychiatrists and the authorities
I worry more about people trawling the internet and telling everyone that this is happening every day when it clearly isnt

I mean, this is happening many days. I think the more convincing argument is saying this was happening every day and it's simply amplified due to the ubiquity of the media's presence in our lives.Originally posted by SLUDGE FACTORY View PostI would leave it to the police , psychiatrists and the authorities

I dont go with it , danger , muslims , violence etc etcOriginally posted by Coyote View PostI mean, this is happening many days. I think the more convincing argument is saying this was happening every day and it's simply amplified due to the ubiquity of the media's presence in our lives.
A classic example was the recent knife attack on the train which all the usual suspects were telling us was a Muslim....when it turned out it wasn't
And two or three news stories the last few days about child abuse .......that turned out to be middle class white offenders ......the reform I told you so types very quiet again

Re: The New Normal
It's a critical thinking problem that is probably related to IQ.Originally posted by Coyote View PostI think we really need to start studying what exactly causes this, and I do think it's overexposure and over-dependence on the internet.
* Critical thinking is the process of analysing available facts, evidence, observations, and arguments to make sound conclusions or informed choices. It involves recognizing underlying assumptions, providing justifications for ideas and actions, evaluating these justifications through comparisons with varying perspectives, and assessing their rationality and potential consequences. The goal of critical thinking is to form a judgment through the application of rational, sceptical, and unbiased analyses and evaluation.

Re: The New Normal
So you think the problem is a lack of critical thinking? Bear in mind, you've had people like Ted Kaczynski, Anders Breivik and many others who have written in-depth manifestos describing why they're doing what they're doing.Originally posted by Wales-Bales View PostIt's a critical thinking problem that is probably related to IQ.

I agree critical thinking should be encouraged in society full-heartedly, but I don't know if that's the primary explanation.

Re: The New Normal
Dodged a bullet today, went out for a walk just now and managed to avoid the new normal. I might stab myself a few times throughout the evening just so I don't trick myself into thinking that the UK is actually pretty safe.Originally posted by SLUDGE FACTORY View PostSort yourself out Mary Whitehouse , violent crime has always gone on
