I think we are now clearly in a new stage with Trump, where he is past his peak and in decline. From there power only goes one way. The Republicans will be rapidly looking at a replacement behind the scenes as he becomes less leader and more liability - it happens to them all; happened to Biden, happened to Corbyn, happened to Johnson, happened to Blair, happened to Sturgeon, will happen to Farage, Polanski some day too. Ceases to lead and the impression rapidly emerges that he needs to be led instead.

Many of you will struggle to point to his positives, but you don't win two elections without them. His nature when well deployed is very effective, and his domestic policies don't have anything like the negative impact those on the Left think they do. Its past that now though. The memes and things are just weird. They aren't spiky, powerful, devastating attacks on Biden or Clinton or other rivals. They aren't even funny. They make less and less political sense even in the world of Trump.

The jesus post is just the post of a nutter. Then saying it's not jesus, it's me as a doctor. That's just insane, weird, creepy and whatever you think of Trump he really didn't do stuff like that a few years ago. Aggressive, robust, rude, effective, whatever it was, it wasn't wincingly cringey and weird. Literally no one will think that's a good post. Opponents didn't want to be on the end of his outbursts now it's almost a badge of honour.

As for America, it is the economy stupid. So time will tell. In a two party system you also only have to be more appealing than the other guy, and there currently is no other guy. Its also important to recognise where he does have appeal and why. Many won't care about cringey memes as long as he keeps America safer / more prosperous / less woke, delete as appropriate.

As for the Pope, of all the things to criticise Trump for, I don't mind it. The Pope is a religious leader. The idea he can't be criticised is wrong, so I don't mind spat with the Pope on that, just as I don't mind a politician criticising the archbishop of Canterbury or whatever.

But yeah, I think we are in a new Trump era now, and unless he rapidly turns things around it will be the last of his eras because I think he is close to losing the party personally.

Trump's history since he was a young man has been characterised by racism, bullying, duplicity, corruption, lying, cruelty, fraud, self-aggrandisement, bankruptcies, immorality and unacceptable sexual behaviour.

His timeline is a mere continuum.

Trump is insulting his Italian cheerleader now.

Giorgia Meloni has defended the Pope against Trump abuse and suspended the arms agreement with Israel.

That is as much down to public disgust with Israel’s destruction of Gaza and southern Lebanon (and the dock workers union blocking shipments), her slipping popularity (recently lost a critical referendum vote) and the number of Catholics in Italy, as to a polotical break with Trump. But it is significant - especially after Orban was thrown out in Hungary.

Trump seems to enjoy shitting on his friends as much as his enemies!

Trump's history since he was a young man has been characterised by racism, bullying, duplicity, corruption, lying, cruelty, fraud, self-aggrandisement, bankruptcies, immorality and unacceptable sexual behaviour.

His timeline is a mere continuum.

Whatever someone's opinions of the man stretching back decades, I think we still have to be allowed to offer an opinion on changes within the context of recent years.

What I'm saying is that I think recent events and actions demonstrate a man who is losing influence and power. Not imminently, but you sense the cogs of change are definitely changing now and his peak is in the past.

His use of social media has always been maverick and gross but he used to post powerful zingers and now he's posting weird AI images about him being jesus and then doctors. Its weird in a way it wasn't weird before and it will be chipping away at his base

If in a hundred years time you were writing an analysis of Donald Trump’s time in politics and you were trying to list his achievements from which some genuine good arose, what would you say? I think I’d go for his visits to Russia and North Korea at a time when American Heads of State just didn’t do that - the trouble is not much came of them because Trump seemed to be in awe of his hosts.

Apart from that i can’t think of anything although I suspect I’d feel differently if I were a tech billionaire.

Basically, he has no respect for anyone else and it's a matter of more and more of his supporters realising they they or their lovrd ones may now be a target of his or that he behaves in a way that is contrary to their hitherto inconsistent belief systems, dogmas and values.
Their general ignorance has hitherto played into his hands but he is revealing even to the most easily indoctrinated aficionados of his the true persona that has revealed itself increasingly as his ego goes largely unchallenged.
The slow peeling away of his support is commensurate with the amount of power he is exercising.
It's ironic that media exposure helped him on the way up and, hopefully, to his political demise. And soon.
