Sorry but it is true. They shouldn't have come here illegally
There was an interesting discussion on this on Five Live this morning at about 8am (for anyone who wanted to listen). The relatively sensible Yvette Cooper was on and nearly everything she said such as the following:
"Organised criminal gangs", "unregulated hotels", "gangs trafficking people and then picking them up", "Albania should take responsibility", "people do lie about their age", "Need to fast track Albanian removals etc", "gangs profits have soared" etc etc is everything people with foresight were saying 18 months ago and lazily labelled 'rAcIST' for it.
Tony Saggers, a former head of the National Crime Agency was also quoted saying we shouldn't refer or treat them as asylum seekers, great many are not children, they should be removed immediately to Albania as the longer they are here the better etc etc.
It's a huge scam going on, it's totally masking those in genuine need and it's fuelling crime here. And it's not just 'children' going missing. It's adults too, because that's part of the whole process of trafficking.
So yeah, they shouldn't be here illegally and more people should be saying that so that we stop tolerating such an intolerable situation .

All great James but you have spent over a year
now telling us the answer is to threaten to send them to Rwanda and it hasn't worked. When people questioned it you accused them of all sorts of ridiculous things, you even told me I must be benefiting from human trafficking. We are beyond the point where you can wade into this as Mr Level Headed.
I would like to know though, have you changed your mind now and decided (as many people were telling you all along) that the best way to approach this is to expedite obviously spurious applications and return them to their country of origin? Obviously it is hard for you to acknowledge that this is the real issue as you would have to blame the Home Office under Tory rule.
The best way to discourage illegal entry (and save shit loads of money) is to set up legal routes, catch illegal immigrants, destroy the gangs and process applications quickly. Not waste a year and hundreds of millions on the dumb**** Rwanda deal.
As for 'they deserve it because they came here illegally', go and have a little rethink about that one.

But they are here. Because the government that promised to be tough on immigration and has been in charge for 13 years hasn't actually done anything of note, to the point that people entering the country illegally are now at their highest numbers.
So now these people are in our country and kids are being taken from government vetted hotels, maybe we shouldn't be blaming the kids for getting snatched up.
some of these children might have lied about their age so they might actually be 18 year olds being forced into criminal gangs or sex work instead of 16 year olds - some Tories on twitter seem to think that this is an important distinction.
Instead of attacking a feckless MP and making another politcial point have a go at the evil arseholes that allow them to be put into dangerous waters for money in the first place ,and French authorities watch it happen as its fits their narrow minded agenda ..

This.
I'm genuinely more than a little shocked that anyone defends a line like this, from someone in power, that says children and young adults that entered the UK illegally because they can't enter legally deserve everything that's coming to them

Well if the self serving NIMBY London legal beagles didn't want to make so much money on the back of these people , the planes would be off the ground thousands moved to Rwanda , we could then see and if the scheme has put them off yes it would put them off , there is a real reason why they are passing through so many safe countries with asylum seeking safe systems ,as a lot of French officials say they get so much more charitable and legal help from us even defend known criminals for a buck and terrorists in bedded into this flow of alleged mainly young men refuges
Rwanda is used by many countries even the EU and Denmark has deployed it with success ..
Britain's parliament has approved Rishi Sunak's plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, which he wants to launch by July
"" The European Union indirectly supports offshore asylum programmes as part of broader efforts to stop refugees coming across the Mediterranean.
The bloc has paid Turkey billions of dollars to keep refugees from reaching Greece and has funded the Libyan Coast Guard, which pushes migrant boats bound for Europe back to North Africa.
It is also helping to fund U.N.-run centres in Niger and Rwanda to process asylum seekers.
We need Labour to get aboard with this scheme they would romp into power and be there for decades as I think the majority of the country favour it ,its not a right or left wing thing . There is a believe of enough is enough ,care for our own .

It's funny how you can be so confident in a policy that you don't actually understand. They aren't sending people to Rwanda for their UK asylum claim to be judged, so this bears no similarity to any other active or proposed schemes that I have seen or heard of. The policy revolves around the idea that nobody who enters illegally has a claim to asylum in the UK, which is against international law. According to the policy anybody who enters the UK illegally can be deported to Rwanda. Up until the last 18 months or so the majority of illegal entrants into the UK were from countries like Afghanistan, Syria, Iran and Iraq and the vast majority had genuine asylum claims. The issue with Albanians entering illegally is something to tackle through diplomacy and by improving the currently appalling claim processing times, not by sending them to Africa.
As for the 'darn leftie lawyers' bit, so your government is so good at being in government and making policy that it needs the law and due process suspended/abolished to get things done? Great, let's hope that doesn't come to bite you on your arse at some point.

Do we even actually know for sure what the MP said and the full context?
Looking on twitter I see lots of furious left wingers, all the classics such as the brunette off bake off, but the only reference seems to be from Peter Kyle MP who is a bit of a divisive figure himself. He doesn't seem to have said anything about it since. Was he rattling the cage?
Also see that Mark Easton is the next for the abuse after he dared to question the narrative that everyone is fleeing famine and war etc (which I think we all recognise now that many plainly aren't)

You’ve stumped me now, are you saying it was a fair comment or denying he said it?
It’s widely reported now. He certainly hasn’t denied it and I’m sure plenty of reporters will have given him the opportunity to quite easily.
I haven’t read the mark easton story yet so won’t comment.
I always try my best to be open minded to listening to debates from both sides but that one from Gullis really did take me back as the lowest of the low
Gullis was fresh from calling the Heads of Teaching Unions "Commies and Bolsheviks" so it is reasonably in keeping with the persona he is trying to carve out. My guess is he thinks the best chance to retain the Stoke North seat that had been Labour for decades is to go all out Culture Warrior, now he has got Brexit done.
That said I have some sympathy with JamesWales views on the wider issue. You don't have to be in a vox pop for GB News to find something fishy on this story.
Hundreds of unaccompanied Albanian teenagers travel the breadth of the Continent. Have sufficient funds to get to Calais and "pay people traffickers for the small boat to Blighty to claim Asylum, from a country seeking EU membership. Only for 200 of them to disappear.
You could easily construct a scenario where the people who transported them from Albania across the Channel are now reacquainted with them to do whatever they planned for these unfortunates in the first place.
I think this is doing genuine asylum seekers no good at all. It is now 10 years and 7 Home Secretaries since Theresa May promised a Hostile Environment for illegal immigrants. Since then, Tory rhetoric amplified by sections of the media and others have bundled illegal immigrants and asylum seekers as one and the same thing. The words of Gullis bear testament to this.
The Catch-22 that asylum seekers find themselves because of the actions of the UK Govt is, apart from Resettlement Schemes such as those for Ukrainians and Afghans, there is no legal means of seeking asylum in the UK as you have to be in the UK to do it!
I was wrong when I said it was a decade since the Conservatives set an immigration target, it was thirteen years ago before they were in Government - strange you never hear this mentioned now.
I remarked in another thread quite recently what the real purpose of Albanians here are.
'The UK government is importing Albanians wholesale to bolster homegrown cannabis production and the distribution of harder drugs...' The missing Albanians I'll wager are now tending to grows in homes and at industrial units and the like to repay the crims who financed their trek across Europe and a spot in a dinghy at Calais.
Ensuring Britain remains awash with drugs is an important element in slowly but surely wrecking communities and society as a whole as it spawns a vast amount of criminality.

So the Tories have failed to get a grip on drug gangs entering the UK by boat. 13 years to sort this and it’s got considerably worse. Time to move aside and let someone else have a go.
