I don’t think that’s fair on the two counties. Perhaps they could expand the playing hours at the northern grounds or have a reserve day as backup. Old Trafford is a fantastic cricket ground with a good tradition. Not been to Headingley, but it’s on my list.

Ah , sorry but that aside , a reserve day wouldn’t go amiss especially when it’s a series decider.

A reserve day would be a nightmare logistically.

Security, stewards, catering, TV crews etc will all be contracted in and they’d be expected somewhere else the day after. You could throw cash at it but there are labour and equipment issues.

Plus where do you draw the line at reserve days? The next test starts when?

I doubt those from supporting Australia will care who was best.

There are reserve days for major one day finals , and as long as it’s scheduled before hand ( usually a few years in advance) I can’t see it being an issue, especially when it comes down to the ECB refunding gate receipts.

Over rates are getting ridiculously slow that there's an argument for scheduling 6 days anyway.

Nobody’s mentioning the pathetic over rate that saw only eighty two or eighty three overs bowled on the first three days. That’s an extra twenty odd overs there should have been- the umpires should keep the teams out there until the ninety overs have been bowled.

Good point that , mind you it’s not just down to the bowlers , what with concussion tests, glove changes, sight screen issues fingers issues , reviews and checking etc

It used to be that players were fined for slow over rates. Now I see no reason why play can't carry on a little longer anyway.

Make each session 2.5 hours long instead of 2 hours (roughly).

I've long since given up on attending another test match live given how much they charge for a ticket these days. The tickets are sold on the basis that there will be ninety overs of cricket, it's fair enough if weather intervenes to cause a reduction in that figure, but, on dry days, they should stay out there until ninety overs have been bowled to give the punters all of the cricket that the sky high price they paid promised.

One of the contributing factors is the ridiculous amount of no balls. Maybe there should be say 5 runs for a no ball or a bowler removed after a certain amount bowled. Something needs to be done. Ian Botham is one who went his entire career without bowling a single no bowl in any form of cricket. I believe Lillee and Kapil Dev also didnt bowl one in international cricket.

I just think it's funny that as the weather cost England this time the test rule book should be re-written.

Yeah but we are the much better side.

We could have won the first two and won the series after three games if....

If the Aussies didn't bowl so many no balls....

                              If the weather...

                              If my auntie etc...

I dont think anyone is saying this as the Ashes are gone.

Test Cricket is in trouble and this has been a superb series between 2 really good sides and we should have been going to the final test at 2-2.

What we have got is a great game ruined by the weather and people looking for answers so there is a solution.

Both sides bowled no balls nobody saying it was just Australia. Again its something that needs to stop as people are paying a lot of money and they are not getting the overs in.

England could have won the 1st two tests. They didnt. Australia edged them. England edged the 3rd and England have dominated the 4th and just have a draw to show for it.

Thats the reality but it would have given Test Cricket a huge boost if the Ashes were on the line at the oval.
