Cantlay will rue the day he mentioned getting paid.
Some people just don't get it do they.
(Biy like BLUETIT really )
I know they are all incredibly wealthy , but why shouldn't they get paid ?
Apparently it is worth almost a billion pounds according to Paul Azinger in an interview earlier .
Where does that money go?

A quick Google...
"The Ryder Cup famously does not pay its players or hand out a winning purse to the victors. Instead, members of the U.S. Ryder Cup team each receive $200,000 to donate to a charity of their choice."
As soon as you start paying people the magic disappears.
I remember loving watching club rugby union when it was "amateur".
Whether one thinks the players should be paid or not, Cantlay's words, particularly the timing of them, were pretty ill-judged.

There was a very good piece on Sky Golf about this last night, not one of the pundits in studio thought they should be paid. Paul McGinley was very passionate about it.The money raised by Ryder Cup is ploughed back into grass roots golf so supports the game and develops young golfers, the young golfers that become multimillionaires off the back of all that help they had at an earlier age. The panel thought that the Ryder Cup is pay back time for the pros. Also, dont forget that they all make money out of it indirectly, increased exposure, loved by sponsors. I dint know, but I would suspect they all have terms in their sponsorship agreements that they get increased monies if they make the Ryder Cup team,, probably more fit they are on a winning team etc.
