This one from Justin Hawkins from whom I learnt something else today, the origin of the Pogues band name...

In the early 1980s, he joined with Peter “Spider” Stacy and other members of a punk band called the Millwall Chainsaws to form Pogue Mahone, a corruption of the Gaelic insult “póg mo thóin,” or “kiss my arse.” They changed the band's name to the Pogues to avoid confronting censorship rules by the BBC and others.

Philip Chevron was formerly in the Irish punk band The Radiators from Space. I saw them support Thin Lizzy in the Capitol December 1977. I'd say my favourite Pogues song was actually written by him - Thousands Are Sailing - but it's a tough choice, they had so many classics. I only saw them with Shane once, and once with Joe Strummer on vocals. It's a huge shame he has died but he really was in an awful state over recent years. I can't see how he could have had any quality of life.

One of my favourite bands, particularly anything they did with the Dubliners, who are also one of my favourite bands.

I love this grainy, short video of them in a a a French bar somewhere. Nothing to it really, but that's the point I guess.

Forever Thelma, hard to think of her as being in her 80s. RIP

Never was much of a fan of Open All Hours as proven by the fact that I didn't know she was in it until this morning.

                      RIP

It wasn’t Ronnie Barker at his finest was it. His finest hours were the Two Ronnies & Porridge in my opinion. Going Straight certainly didn’t hit the heights and Clarence was poor. Back to Thelma, I don’t remember her in Open All Hours due to stopping watching it by then I s’pose.

                          Absolutely

Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads has to be one of the greatest sitcoms ever.
