It is a miracle that he lived so long. He seems to have had one foot in the grave for over 40 years!

One of my favourite songwriters ever. A one off.

Great song, written by Kirsty MacColls father so I voted for a MacGowan song.

A mate has just WhatsApped "it's a shame but he's been a dead pool coupon buster for years. Just waiting on someone to put on twatter a pic of him and Kirsty MacColl with the words 'Back together for Christmas" to round it all off.

              Great stories in his songs.

Broad Majestic Shannon is a favourite for that.

It says on Twitter he'd "been ill for some time" so you might not be far off, he never looked well.

65 is way too young normally but the way he lived his life, not too bad an innings.

Keeping with the cricketing analogy, he certainly was no Geoff Boycott, more of an Ian Botham.

                RIP Shane.

Agreed, amazing he made it to sixty five - used to love the Pogues.

Fantastic lyricist and a fascinating life. The biography written by his wife (I believe?) is well worth picking up.

Well I never knew that, and the Kirsty McColl connection too.

Your choice is a good un too

A few tributes floating about today, this one popped up.
This one from Justin Hawkins from whom I learnt something else today, the origin of the Pogues band name...

I find Justin Hawkins a tiresome watch.

Great guitarist but a one trick pony

Darkness were superb live were a party band but difficult to take them seriously which is what he wanted
