I struggle to think of a better goalkeeper in my time at City. For the division we were in at the time Gavin Ward was a standout. In the Championship / Prem years, Marshall gets my nod.

Marshall best keeper I've seen in a City shirt.

The best stopper but he didn't like coming off his line for crosses and corners and from which goals were scored.

Though we have been blessed with a number of quality goal-keepers he is the best keeper I've seen since starting watching City (from the late 1950's). His professionalism and performances were of the highest order. He was a class act. During his time at City he amassed:

            • 278 Appearances
            • 87 Clean Sheets.

Best keeper I've seen play for City - in particular, I can remember home games against Villa and the wurzels where he took them on virtually by himself, both matches finished 0-0.

Class keeper and very professional, I met him many times, and he was very mature for a young footballer.

Didn’t his wife love living in Cardiff and used to, jokingly, angle for a move back here whenever he became available after leaving us?

Yes she did, they lived at top of Wennallt Road in the New houses on the right, Gavin Rae was up there and he loved it too.

Cardiff must have something Nat Phillips's wife/partner recently said the same.

We've been blessed with some good keepers in recent decades. Neil Alexander, Marshall, Allan McGregor (briefly), Etheridge, Tom Heaton. We were spoilt having Marshall and Heaton at the same time.

That said, we've had some stinkers, too. Dimi Konstantopolous, Steven Bywater, Runarsson to name a few.
