  • Last striker we signed.....

Who was the last striker we signed that was a regular starter and proven goalscorer for a team in the top 2 tiers of any league?

I'm guessing Kieffer Moore and, before that, Robert Glatzel?

You’re classing Meite as a League One player are you? He was certainly a proven goalscorer at this level before his injury.

      Gary Madine?

      Kenwyne Jones.

      LeFondre.

The link between all of them with the possible exception of Jones is that they were less than prolific at Cardiff.

I would like to make the case for Karlan Grant. For Huddersfield, as a striker, he scored 19 in 4:. For WBA as a striker, he bagged 18 in 44. Two seasons before, although Crawley were League 1, he bagged 9 in 15 games. So athough one
of those three teams were outside your definition of “top two leagues” he has proven his ability as a 9 in those leagues, and proven he has “consistency” by hitting a good goal average at a third club Crawley.

So at a time when we were begging for someone with height and speed who could score goals as a 9, a few coaches thought it was a bright idea to shunt him out to the wing, where he delivered only 6 in 39 from the wing - in line with his poor performances at other clubs from the wing. So Karlan Grant has been a good striker for several clubs and could have been a good replacement for Moore with similar styles (tall, strong, quick, good in the air and a decent finisher).

It is one of the biggest mysteries of last season why we perservered with the tired, ineffective
and lazy Meite, when Karlan Grant’s prior record was staring at us in the face.

Probably because Bulut wanted a battering ram up front when I'd have preferred to see Grant up top. He had the pace and movement the others didn't have.

Kenwyn Jones - did his job albeit a one trick pony. The only other ones were Bothroyd, Chopra and McCormack.
Le Fondre was garbage. I forgot Moore - but we had him on loan. Madine - sh1te.

I cant think of any other city striker that we have signed that has been even half decent

I don't think Meite was lazy - he seemed to be carrying an injury most of last season. But you are right about Grant.

                          Moore wasn't a loan.

Fraizer Campbell was a good signing.

And he scored 25 in 64 for us (0.39 goals per game). That's our best striker return % since Chopra (63/159, 0.40) and Earnie (109/227; 0.48). Think Moore is just forgotten because of the COVID season and the fact he was absent a lot later in the second season with us. Proper striker for sure.

NB: Those numbers were from very rough searches, so happy to be challenged, but he did seem to outscore Jones, Campbell and Zohore.
