Mrs Citizen was distraught the other day because a Herring Gull chick had fallen from the roof and was screeching to the parents flying around outside. Nothing could be done. It was horrible. Next time you can come over with your ladders and put the bloody thing back in the nest!

Re: A Laugh At My Expense...

A few years back my son had a house opposite the entrance to Llandaff Fields. He was away one weekend and his missus phoned me in a panic, there was a mouse in the house (for my mate Jimmy, there was a moose, loose aboot this hoose). I went down there, scooped him up on a dustpan, ran to the front door and set him free. He scurried across the road towards the park when a bird swooped down and scooped him up. I could just imagine him thinking he was on some sort of rodent fairground ride and screaming ‘whoooo!’ as he rose in the air.
Those little birdies do grow up to be ruthless predators, you might have saved a monster of a killing machine:hehe:

Didn't think much of it, so in true Bloke fashion decided to ignore it, but the noise wouldn't go away. So, i identified three areas where i thought the noise was coming from, all in close proximity to each other, although the ball ache was that it was coming from the wall area, which meant cavity. I'm as soft as shit and i couldn't bear the thought of this bird having to put up with a slow death in a dusty dark Cavity and having to listen to it while it slowly perished. So i decided to chop the wall out, two areas as i couldn't identify exactly where it was coming from.

I hacked the plaster back and took out around four bricks in two separate area, loose fill insulation pissed out all over the room, but after a couple of hours of smashing things up i found the bird, it was a fledgling Sparrow. Job done! Now bear in mind i havent stopped, and although my good lady loves animals having two big holes in the walls would never do. So on the Sunday i bricked them up, hardwalled them and skimmed it all up, cleaned up, Hoovered, dusted, all of this in between looking after this bird who needed feeding every hour. Took a shower, clean clothes, sat down, and guess what? His or Hers Sibling must have dropped down the same section of cavity and ended up trapped in exactly the same area, which meant that i had to smash up all of the work i had done previously in order to save the bird..........I've left the wall open for now.....

Lovely story this but how the hell did you find out his name though?

                      Kes, what a great film.

I used to have a bird feeding table on the patio. Attracted all sorts, blue tits, sparrows, starlings, collared doves, robins, dunnock,...

                          One day there was nothing...

except a sparrow hawk using it as HIS feeding table!

Re: A Laugh At My Expense...

Tuerto's halo might slip a little here, but a fortnight before his sparrows drama began, a young magpie somehow managed to get itself stuck down my chimney and trapped behind the gas fire in my living room. I had to pay for a mate who's a gas engineer to come out, disconnect the gas and remove the fire while I attempted to rescue the bird.

After approximately 20 hours in my chimney, the magpie was released and has thankfully made a full recovery. I see him most days with his parents outside the flat and he looks in good health. I've named him Sooty and told him to stay off my roof.

I was telling Tuerto about the magpie situation while it was happening. He was laughing like a drain...
