I find that generally, a poor one will get you the quote back next day and are ready to go whenever you are :hehe:

Anyone vaguely good you will need to ring several times over the course of 2-3 weeks, send texts, and also whatsapp. I find that whatsapp often gives a better response than texts; i'm not sure if that's because people don't read their texts or because you can see when someones read a whatsapp? Probably a totally different can of worms.

Once you get a quote, I find generally it's almost as difficult to commit to a date. Some will openly tell you they're too busy and don't know their arse from their elbow whereas others will make up a story like it seems yours has, e.g. covid.

But as tuerto said above I think it's lack of organisation, doing things on a wing and a prayer and I agree i'd rather them just give me a date for 2 months time rather than the runaround...

With regards the insults back and forth there's one on here who I won't mention the name of for fear of another flounce but they get overly and unnecessarily insulted and angry about literally anything.

This is exactly it. Thing is, plenty of tradespeople are fantastic at their job, but absolutely terrible with communication and organisation. I've been guilty of it over the years. The reason most of them are out on their own (apart from money and lifestyle) is that they're not very good in groups :hehe:

Yeah, sorry to jump on your thread and take it off at a slight tangent! You've also taken the wind out my sails now with the thought that the Covid thing may be made up . Maybe I should just be upfront with him and tell him 2 months is fine if that's all he can do. Although my plastering will probably have fallen apart by then.

i'd imagine the good ones are so overrun they'll end up on a job from 8 and still end up getting in at 8, then my text comes through asking for a quote and they think f*** that i'll do it tomorrow. He doesnt tip anymore anyway and his mugs are shit

Not at all I think it had descended into arguments about something.
I think the only thing about using Covid or similar as an excuse is generally, you could send a text to say "really sorry but i'm really ill but I'll get back to you asap". I think i've been too ill to do that maybe once in my life for 24 hours? But I don't want to pee on your chips. He's come back to you now so fingers crossed it should be fine

The woman in the house we’re working on asked us if we wanted tea this morning and asked us where the Cardiff mugs were, me and my mate both replied, ‘We’re both season ticket holders’.

That’s the problem, you’re out all day working, when you got home all you wanted was the settee, your tea and the Echo. (When the Echo was a proper broadsheet evening paper). But to the keep the ship sailing on you had to get home and get out again looking at work, then back home and pricing. Or calling in to look at jobs on the way home, eventually getting home about 7 or 8 o’clock. I’d end up with scraps of paper everywhere with things jotted down. Chaotic!!

mine were always neatly filed on my dashboard unless some dopey idiot opens the passenger side door when you have your drivers door open, then the wind takes all your notes, prices and quotes :hehe: happened to me more than once when I had a apprentice

There is a bit of a gang mentality on here, they hold grudges and gang up and tag team other posters, it's quite funny, you know who will jump to their defence if you post something they can make a snide remark at and reply to them, all very predictable but it can be good fun.

No need for the sniping style comments mate. Cilfynydd is only around the corner. You may even know me.

then you'd realise how really wrong you were

Not sure what the Cilfynydd comment means. But the only person I know who overreacts like you is my mrs. That'd be a turn up for the books
