  • Discussion in work today

Load of lads with us today from The Wirral. One of them said he's never seen so many people break in the left lane to let people join from slip roads as he has in South Wales. He wasn't very pleased, he worded it a bit more aggressively said "Not what you ****ing need after 4 hours of driving from 5am in the ****ing morning towing ****ing machinery" or something.

Anyone else notice it a lot, I cant say its something that affects me day to day, probably notice it a few ties a month. Maybe he was just grumpy after a poor sleep and a long drive.

I’m not the best driver in the world, in fact I hate driving, but if I approach a busy slip road I tend to move into the middle lane if it’s safe to do so.

Also so many idiots on the road I don’t always trust those coming up the slip road, so if I need to break I probably would.

Did they also mention anything about middle-lane hoggers and the amount undertaking on the motorways?

The problem with breaking is when people then move into the middle lane sharpish, then it has a knock on effect it either forces people in the middle lane to slam on or move to the right..guess what they then have to do..

Ive never really had a problem with it personally, but I thought it might make an interesting discussion on the comb.

It would help if people didn't drive so close together on motorways and read ahead more. I always try and keep to the 2 second rule, sometimes a bit more on faster roads. I don't feel safe when motorway traffic is almost bumper to bumper.

More distance from the vehicle in front and there's less need for sudden lane changes or dramatic braking.

No, that's why I included the word 'also'.
Can't comment much on other areas of the country, but drivers here do seem to be very indecisive when either joining a faster road, or in knowing how to react when someone else is trying to do so.

I assume the discussion was about braking....in your break time....

I know you were having a bit of a laugh due to another post I made ;)

It was more the fact he was moaning about South Wales that made me wonder if anyone else had noticed the same, because I cant really say I have but he was very vocal about it.

I honestly wasn't 100% sure the previous driving thread was yours.
Trouble is, that when people join a dual carriageway or motorway they fall into 1 of 3 categories.
They'll either do it properly or, they'll either slow down and wait for a gap then accelerate, or they'll be gun-ho and slide straight out into lane 2 or 3. There's too many on the road already who'll sit back to find out which one it is.

‘Gun-ho’? Some need a brake from this board

I haven't noticed driving behaviour in South Wales is any different from other parts of the UK.

The areas I know best are Yorkshire, the West Midlands and South Wales. In my experience drivers are the same everywhere - the same mix when it comes to speed, caution, politeness, indicating - and I bet that is the same in The Wirral.

The only exception is Coventry - and that isn't because of the people there. The Coventry ring road is designed to inflict driver carnage with vehicles leaving the ring road having to cross vehicles joining it. Utter madness - but it does mean the drivers there take more care than anywhere else I know.

Im the mad bastard that got fed up of middle lane hoggers and undertook 9 cars. I'd do it again as well :D

I dislike lane hoggers..all of them..left lane hoggers that won't move to the middle to allow you to merge..middle lane hoggers for obvious reasons and right lane hoggers that won't budge (duals as I don't drive over 70 on the motorway)

I'm also not a fan of people who overtake you then pull into your lovely gap you've given yourself between you and the car in front of you, other than that im not really triggered driving.
