I think the reaction from Djokovic alone tells enough of a story regarding how much Tennis players value the Olympics.

Indeed. He gets 4 chances a year to win a Grand Slam, but 1 chance every 4 years to win the Olympics.

The Paris Olympics was an outstanding sporting event. I loved all of it. I watched everything I could and the human skills on display in every event and sport was a joy to see and very uplifting. Nobody forces you to watch it. But millions did and do. Paris was a great venue too.

He’s actually described it as the pinnacle of his career. It was an immense achievement.

One thing that I really loved for sports like BMX, Mountain Biking, Skateboarding etc. were the commentators. They were a breath of fresh air and had their own language. Their enthusiasm was infectious.

The women's basketball final was incredible too. And the British woman weightlifter was fab. As I said, I loved it all.

I watched loads of hockey and am a complete convert re. that sport now. I was going to ask Loramski where the best place to watch top level hockey would be. Like, is there any in Cardiff? In fact, I just did!

That's a great way of artuculating it. It's is a tricky one though becuase basketball is the pinnacle for everyone bar the USA. I think that's why for years the Olympics was an amateur only competition. Boxing is about the only sport I can think that still maintains two strict codes.

I can't watch Hockey - it's almost as bad as Netball for the whistle going every 5 seconds for some kind of fould or rule infringement.

                              Hi CN,

Been playing hockey myself for years (in London, at a low amateur level). If you're in Cardiff then you're somewhat in luck, as Cardiff & Met play in the Hockey Premier League which is the top level.
Cardiff & Met is the premier hockey club in wales. Based in Cardiff at the national sports centre for wales, we have 7 mens teams and 4 ladies teams. The mens teams compete in various leagues in south wales with our first team comteling at the elite national league. our ladies teams compete at the top level in south wales and cater for all abilitles. Our newly formed Youth section caters for all ages. we always welcome new members of all abilitles

I didn't know this myself but the National Hockey Centre for Wales is in Sophia Gardens. From what I can see the Men's 1s play their home games there.

                              For Wales, check out https://www.hockeywales.org.uk/
They play at Sophia Gardens, in fact there seemed to have been a few games last week for both the Men's and Women's teams.

As an aside...loved the skateboarding and the BMX stuff too. Incredible what they can do...and amazing that the young kids just pick themselves up straight away when they fall; I'd be straight off to A&E to get checked over!

The speed climbing you could see becoming a cult hit. Squash should be good for 2028...about time that was in the Olympics.

Thanks for that mate. Funnily enough, I did used to take in quite a few Cardiff Met football games for years and love the campus. So, that's good to know. I shall definitely look into it and get over there.

You mentioned Sophia Gardens. I've been over there for target shooting and there's a few of us with MS who use it (it was my physio who introduced me to the setup) and I'm not sure but I think one of the guys is in the Paralympics (he's in a wheelchair but I'm ambulant). There's loads of stuff going on and I agree about the 'street' sports. I love them. Tony Hawkes was watching the final. I think it's immense that he's seen that sport grow and was a real trailblazer for skateboarding.

Me and Mrs CN got hooked on the speed climbing and climbing in general. She wants to try it and we went out yesterday in Cardiff and saw a poster for it! It was sign!

Thanks again for that post. Really appreciate it
