McGuinness was born in Slough. Presumably his family are based in that area. So, he’s a lot closer home, he’s had a significant pay rise, he’s playing for a side that was in the Premier League last season and he’s no longer being managed by Erol Bulut.
He probably thinks he’s had a result. Although it’s Luton, he’s probably right.
I always liked his attitude but never rated him as highly as other CBs we’ve had over the years. Too many simple mistakes for me. Not sure where the “good distribution” praise comes from because my (albeit foggy) memory has him passing it to the other team more than a 5 million pound striker should.
almost certainly the best all round piece of business we've done in a long time.
sensible purchase , a good age, good potential, and not for a large fee.
A loan at a good level that allowed him to put himself in contention for the first team.
Trusted to do a job in the first XI when so many other times we would have gone out and bought another veteran to take his place.
Sold at a massive profit .
He's taken his opportunities at Sheffield Wednesday and with us, so ultimately his input has the largest factor in how this has been so successful, however surely the club will look at the way this has gone and see it as a template for the way forward?

I trust we’ve put a sell on clause as did the Arsenal when we acquired him. We surely have, haven’t we, our board are clued up on these things…..aren’t they?

we would have had to have accepted a lower fee presumably to have had a sell on fee - so I guess it depends how much we think his value will get to over 10m whether that was worth it.
people always complain that we didn't have a sell on clause for Ramsey - it wouldn't have made any difference if we did in the end.
I was just going to post the same. We have a decent record of turning good players into average ones. There's no doubt McGuinness was a better player on his return.
You must be very disappointed the club have turned a decent profit on a player ?
How on earth did we manage that?

I’m surprised how au fait I am with McGuiness’s move. I’d have thought I’d be distraught at the City selling a player for a potential £10 million fee. I’d have been of the mind that the player would be such a loss that we’d never recover, a la Toshack, but I don’t feel anywhere near as despondent over this. If the money enables us to strengthen in needed areas, all’s good. Certainly not knocking McGuinness but the size of the fee has shocked me and if we do eventually get £10 million (minus the Arsenal’s cut) and the money is used wisely, it’s a hell of a deal. It’s the ‘used wisely’ that worries me. I’ll be there on Sunday Jim:thumbup:
