Latest one is "may be big news coming soon, not confirmed yet though, lots of plates spinning, can't confirm if to do with on field or off the field but hopefully won't have to wait too long before it's confirmed."

And it sends people into overdrive trying to figure out what it is. :hehe: basically anything that either does or doesn't happen will prove them right and pull people further in.
There will be a signing in the summer. Position and details to be revealed later.

Somebody mentioned that it might be the fitness coach from the DJ era.

And I'm not sure he'd necessarily be a great fit for the role.

Of course there are many diffrerent examples of DoF that work in slightly different ways, but in general I think the main advantage is to put certain functions like recruitment, youth delelopment, develpoment of a "football philosophy" etc slightly removed from the manager. For good reason as managers are often fairly short term positions, and you don't want to completely chop and change direction every 12 months.

Playing style wise I'd be very happy with the Jones brand of football - Id argue that what Riza is trying to do is probably not too dissimilar.

I'd say in general Jones' recruitment was skewed to slightly older players, and with a focus on paying higher wages and lower transfer fees - and concentrating the funds on a good first XI with the rest of the squad a significant drop in quality.
I'm not sure that's the way we should be going now.
\dJ didn't have a 'style of football'. He just picked the team and told them 'go out and do your thing'
        (according to Jon Parkin's book)

Jay Bothroyd said once that Jones never used to change his tactics to counter what the opposition would do. He was always of the opinion that teams should be more worried about us. I haven't come across that Parkin comment but sounds a bit like the free range sort of manager Jones was.

Last I heard he was working in financial services in Telford.

People on the other board saying he lives in the Vale and attends the odd game, but I doubt that.

It took five minutes to find DJ's address.

I'd post it here, but I'm wary of AI

                  .
Lennie Lawrence has done sterling work at a number of clubs since he managed us - never as manager, just working in the background. Probably getting on a bit to come back here now, but age aside, that's the sort of person we need.

None of whom are anywhere near our level and the clubs he’s been involved with haven’t done anything remarkable.

DJs time has come and gone. It would be interesting though, if only to see Eric have another melt down.

Dave "Dinosaur" Jones played Bothroyd, Chopra, Whittingham, McCormack, McPhail and Ledley in the same team.

If he was to come back as DOF, we could do far worse. At least he has some knowledge of the game.

He didn't in the play off final.

We could obviously do far worse as the people running the club are utter clowns.

I'd rather stick with no DOF than having Dave Jones at the club.

Appointing Dave Jones would be just typical of them mind.

Dave Jones didn't sign the players we have in the last 36 months. He signed his fair share of duds but the good far outweighed the bad.

I was a big supporter of DJ as manager but Totally agree, I don’t see what DJ brings to that role, he’s been out of the game some time. If appointed it would just seem like an easy appointment to please these fans groups and their open letters.

Also think it’s a way of Tan to say, well I didn’t want a DoF, it hasn’t worked, we won’t get one again.

Almost anyone with experience and contacts in the game would be beneficial coming in as DoF. We have nobody at an exec level working here full time so it would serve that purpose (deling with contracts, loans and signing...promptly). Additionally, if we're sticking with Rizza he's clearly very inexperienced (as was shown with J Colwill comments) and having a mentor and someone to take the more office/ communication stuff off his hands would be a benefit.
