Go off the average attendances, not cherry pick when they had a good weekend of attendances over the festive season, and taken into account the size of the city's its not even close.

Also, as you keep avoiding the point, I will repeat it again - Half of Cardiff City FCs support is not even from the City so make sure you divide Cardiff City FCs average attendance in half when you perform another round of mental gymnastics to try and support your opinion.
I’m “cherrypicking” games based on when both teams are at home at the same time so there’s no question about people attending both sports. Something you no doubt would’ve mentioned.

It’s rare it happens, but for both instances it has happened this season, over 30,000 individual people have attended a sports event in Cardiff at the same time.

Does every single Sunderland fan walk to the ground for their games? Not a single person travels from Blyth, Durham, Whitley, Seaham or any of the other number of towns in the area? It won’t be half, but it’s more likely to be in the thousands rather than hundreds.

Maybe Sunderland is a better supported Sport city, but Cardiff is certainly a better supported Sports city. You should be careful how you word things, some people are pedantic

        Re: Cardiff Rugby

Cardiff Rugby enter administration and will be taken over in a rescue operation by the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU).

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has taken control of Cardiff Rugby after the club's legal entity was placed temporarily into administration by its directors.

The development was expected after Wales' capital city side had served a notice of intent (NOI) to appoint an administrator for Cardiff Rugby Limited.

That decision was made once it became clear the club's owner, Helford Capital, who secured an 84.5% majority stake in January 2024, was unable to meet its obligations to fund the club as it was contractually obliged to do.

Immediately following the appointment of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the administrator sold the club's business and assets to the WRU.

The WRU say Cardiff players and staff will be unaffected by the sale and fixtures will be fulfilled, with season and match tickets remaining valid.

Very true, what you reckon about 1 to 2% follow ccfc? If you consider penarth at least as part of the city it’s got to be pushing 400,000 then there’s Barry, Caerphilly with a field or two in between and the forgotten town of Newport. 700,000 people and barely any go? It’s weird.

I’d guess that’s better ratios per population than the likes of Reading, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Bournemouth, Peterborough and probably several other cities depending on your definition of “major”.
Yeah that’s shite, how many of the 18000 come from Cardiff itself for the football? The rugby don’t get 8k and most of the devils support is from outside too

Don’t start him off again ffs.

20+8+3 equates to more than 40 if you listen to him.

If you actually listen to me, what I said was 31/32k is pretty comparable to 35k. You should pay attention or you’ll make silly mistakes.

I happen to be one of the people on this forum who doesn’t think Cardiff is the absolute worst at everything ever, be it the local council, the music scene, the sports, the blah blah blah, etc like plenty seem to enjoy believing. It’s quite nice to enjoy the place you live, try it sometime.

The best supported rugby teams in England average about 15k-20k so Cardiff getting 8k is actually a pretty respectable turnout and is better than lots of other cities. We’ve got a popular and successful Ice Hockey team, who also happen to be the 4th highest attended team in the country. Not bad for “the worst sports supporting major city in the UK”

And we’ve got a mediocre football going crowd who can turn up in large numbers if the occasion calls for it. We still hold the record for the highest attended game at the new Wembley nearly 20 years later. We’ve sold out our Wembley allocation 4 times, something many Championship clubs (and some Premier League clubs) struggle to do.

                            Bore off Kevin.

Even by exaggerating the average attendance of each of the. Cardiff sports teams and taking 5000 off Sunderland FCs average you still can’t get Cardiff to have more supporters than Sunderland.

And still avoiding the fact that half of CCFC support come from outside the City. Sunderland has nowhere near 50% outside of the City.

Or that Cardiff rugby and ice hockey don’t play anywhere near as many games as Sunderland play football.

But you keep telling yourself that the people of Cardiff get behind their sports teams in their masses and it’s comparable with the people of Sunderland getting behind their team.

I’ve never claimed Cardiff had more supporters than Sunderland.

I’ve not exaggerated anything, I explained with pretty sensible reasoning why I chose the only 2 games Cardiff City and Cardiff Rugby have played on the same day.

You keep saying 50% of Cardiff’s fans come from outside Cardiff for all the sports teams with nothing to back that up.

Why does number of games matter? Sunderland having 800,000 fans in attendance over the course of the season doesn’t mean there’s 800,000 people in Sunderland supporting their team. If Cardiff City only played 10 games a season we wouldn’t suddenly get crowds of 40,000.

You think we’re the worst sports supporting city in the country. Plenty of people consider Sunderland one of the best set of fans in English football. When it comes to sports, Cardiff isn’t too far behind Sunderland. A matter of a few thousand depending on the year in fact. This year, the 3 Cardiff clubs 31k, Sunderland 38k. When Sunderland were in our position a few seasons ago and got relegated they averaged 27k. Last season Sunderland had 2k less and Cardiff City had 2k more.

The 3 best supported rugby teams in England last year:
                                Leicester - 21k
                                Bristol - 19k
                                Saracens - 15k

Cardiff at 8k in a worse league ain’t too shabby.

In Ice Hockey, Cardiff beats out Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Coventry as the 4th best supported team in the UK. Again, not too shabby.

Saying the people of Cardiff aren’t interested in sports is wrong. They’re just not all interested in the same sport.
