  • We need a song

Just watching the Sunderland players listening to the fans sing Wise Men Say at the end of the game yesterday. Beautiful

    Palace have Glad All Over

    Forest have whatever it is

We could do with a song. Not sure it matters what it is. Just something everyone knows

    Steps or something

                Everton ... 'There she Goes.'

Well, it's better than 'Z Cars.'

My choice. Still a classic as it was when first played at Ninian Park in the late 1960's.

                      Re: We need a song

Some of the songs clubs sing before the kick-off have little or no real connection with the city they represent. Forest singing "Mull of Kintyre" WTF is that all about? Fulham, "Sweet Caroline" - nothing unique about that. Villa and Wolves sing the same song Hi-Ho Silver lining. At least L'pool, Arsenal, have songs that have a real connection with the place they represent. Others have songs that have been long standing songs e.g Palace with Glad all over - which is acceptable. We have 2 songs - one can really only be sung by Cardiff, the other is uniquely Welsh. They are, of course, I'll be there and Men of Harlech. Bout for mr it should be the former it links the City and the Valleys, it has real meaning and it's pert of our heritage.

Mull of Kintyre was number one at Christmas 1977. Forest went on to win the league that year. I assume that is why they adopted it?

We should adopt a Shirely Bassey song as she is a local girl. Diamonds are forever or Bluebirds are forver?

"You'll Never Walk Alone" is a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel. In the second act of the musical, Nettie Fowler, the cousin of the protagonist Julie Jordan, sings "You'll Never Walk Alone" to comfort and encourage Julie when her husband, Billy Bigelow, the male lead, stabs himself with a knife whilst trying to run away after attempting a robbery with his mate Jigger and dies in her arms.

Unless the “real connection” to the city of Liverpool is knifecrime and robbery, I’m missing the link.

YNWA is no different for Liverpool than Mull of Kintyre or Glad All Over is for Forest and Palace. They adopted it because a scouse band did a cover version of the song in the 60’s.
