With their artificial pitch - what is the highest level they would be allowed to play at?Originally posted by the other bob wilson View Post

I can answer my own question. National League is the highest level in the English pyramid system. EFL does not allow artificial pitches BUT the FA Cup does!Originally posted by The Prophet of Doom View PostWith their artificial pitch - what is the highest level they would be allowed to play at?
Scotland too - allows them.

Correct. Personally, I hate them. I get the community use angle and why clubs might do it but I just hate the look and feel of them. Penydarren Park I arguably one of the best non league grounds in the country historically but the pitch does jar a little for me.Originally posted by The Prophet of Doom View PostI can answer my own question. It's not a big issue clearly and great to see them starting so well! The crowds can make a big difference at that level too in terms of bringing players in

Re: What a good start for Merthyr.
Thought reality was biting for Merthyr after they conceded seven goals in losing their previous two matches, but going to Macclesfield and winning 3-1 last night is some result for them. Macclesfield have a very big budget by National League (North) standards and I'm pretty sure they were pre season favourites to win the title.

They were fourth in the betting. 3/1 - Kidderminster
6/1 - King's Lynn
7/1 - Chester
10/1 - Macclesfield
11/1 - Fylde
Not sure what odds Merthyr were - the Racing Post only quoted the top eight in the betting for this division.

I went to the Merthyr v Scarborough game , Merthyr could have been 2 or even 3 up at half time. The second half Scarborough pumped high balls into the box and got their goals.Originally posted by the other bob wilson View PostThought reality was biting for Merthyr after they conceded seven goals in losing their previous two matches, but going to Macclesfield and winning 3-1 last night is some result for them. The Seadogs appeared to be a physically stronger side.
Highlights of the day
1.A good few beers in town at met a few old friends of mine
2. Had a nice chat with Pasty in the the ever so popular club house ( he has a decent book on non league football grounds )
3. Had a 99 ice cream at half time :hehe:
4. Chatted briefly with Owen Money :music:
