Executive boxes at the top (could they see the pitch?). Some of them would work as entrances to the stadium, but that still leaves multiple brick towers with no obvious use that will cost a small fortune to build. Not sure even Birmingham City have money to throw away like that!

when you have a budget of $3 billion, its easy to add some folly

retractable roof and movable pitch for concerts

the whole project looks exciting from a sports view, the full works ( inc community pitches )

They will be used so that they can be subsequently taken away in future designs, thus demonstrating that they are delivering value for money!

      Absolutely ridiculous designs IMO

According to the architects, those chimneys have a purpose of being roof-supports.
In fact, you can see from the first article, provided by the OP, that there are indeed some kind of cables stretching from the chimneys.

I keep seeing visions of L S Lowry's paintings, along with Ashington Colliery brass band playing Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 (Hovis advert for the oldies).

Think of all the fossil fuels needed and the smog from those stacks in the winter. :hehe:

Why do they need a stadium capacity of 62k?

Yup, even some of the men's international games might get played there from time-to-time.

Which f'in idiot(s) think that is a good idea? It looks like someone's intestines turned inside out. The planners should never approve that.

Which version of UB40 though. There used to be two different versions doing the rounds.

I love it. Sort of looks futuristic whilst still having a nod to the past. Great to see unique stadiums rather than these identikit efforts everyone else has.

A nod? It looks like "find the stadium" hidden in a Lowry painting.
