But they have the holy grail for football success at any club in a director of football.

Maybe not always the right way to set a club up despite the clamour amongst our fans.

Can you imagine sir Alex having to explain decisions the way recent managers have had to at United?

Seems to be working out at Arsenal…

I think the clamour among our fans is to avoid having your hero making the football decisions. We don’t have a Director of Football. We’ve ended up in League One battling for promotion with Lincoln and Bradford.

        Re: Amorim sacked.

I don't have any real sympathy for Amorim, another manager who thinks far too highly of his abilities. However another totally ridiculous decision by United to hire somebody who was clear he would play his style and formation no matter what, despite knowing they didn't have the players to do it and couldn't spend enough to totally rebuild the squad. Now he's had a better season and has them about where you'd expect, he's shitcanned after a few bad results with his best player injured and half the rest of his starting lineups at Afcon because now Jason Wilcox and a bunch of directors who know feck all about the game have decided he should be a bit more pragmatic.

Director of football or no director of football, teams with solid football and businessmen at the top will make good decisions and teams that are a mess will continue to make terrible ones.

How can any manager manage, when someone esle at the club is signing players the manager doesn't want.

Its a tinpot of a club.

Its mad how giants can fall. They simple haven't had any stability since Alex Ferguson left and that was 12 years ago now.

Fair play for shoe horning that in, in an attempt to prove a point.

There's an argument that Ferguson had too much power towards the end of his reign. When other clubs around them were grasping new ways of playing and setting themselves up for the future, Ferguson and United weren't. To top it all off they employed a bloody Director of football.

I wonder if Gary Neville still 'likes what he sees' as he stated in that bizarre 4-4 game with Bournemouth recently?
Busby and Ferguson were their only decent managers, everything else is folklore.

This Amorim chap certainly hasn't set the footballing world alight and has no doubt begun to really feel the pressure, but his public outbursts were a sure-fired way to get the sack and £millions paid up on his contract without the ignominy of being sacked for purely football reasons.

Excluding caretakers, Man Utd’s managers since Alex Ferguson retired in May 2013 have been as follows:

                        David Moyes
                        Louis van Gaal
                        Jose Mourinho
                        Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
                        Ralf Rangnick (interim)
                        Erik ten Hag
                        Ruben Amorim

Excluding caretakers, Cardiff City’s managers during the same period have been as follows:

                        Malky Mackay
                        Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
                        Russel Slade
                        Paul Trollope
                        Neil Warnock
                        Neil Harris
                        Mick McCarthy

                        Mark Hudson
                        Sabri Lamouchi (interim)

                        Omer Riza
                        Brian Barry-Murphy

                        Almost twice as many.

There is a misconception that Amorim was sacked because of results. He wasn't as you point out he was sacked for an outburst towards the running of the club and the people above him. He will walk away with £Millions (reported to be £15m) and that seems perverse. Surely slagging your boss off is gross misconduct? If it were you or me we would walk away with sod all

A real comparison would be with clubs of the same stature as Cardiff. I would be interested to see that

Comparing Manchester United to Cardiff City has to be one of the most pointless wastes of anyone's time ever.

                                Congratulations! lol.
