Would we expect to walk into a newsagent and read the papers for free?
Back in eighties whilst unemployed I did that a few times

Unfortunately the news in the papers is yesterday’s news now.

No but when you walk into a newsagent you don't have to barge through people hitting you with adverts that you have to place on the floor to get to the thing you want to read

                In WH Smiths, yes.

                Probably why they went bust.

                    Re: Wales on line

I've just opened a couple of articles without paying using aeroplane mode and they are basically extracts from the press conference yesterday which is freely available anyway??

                      Re: Wales on line

As an 'exile' I have opened it on a daily basis or more and especially around City games.
                      Tbh the paper is awful!
It's attention grabbing headlines are usually misleading - the ones about City included.
It seems to focus on the trivia and in my view is more interested in the undermining the good in Cardiff and the surrounding areas.
The ratings were always a goto especially in the car on the way home from games.
                      Pay for it? absolutely not!!!

                        Re: Wales on line

I only ever see the paper Echo when I come down to Cardiff for a home game - which is normally about once a month (less recently).

The Echo is a better paper than most in the Reach plc stable - but that is a low bar.

I don't get as many adverts as many on here complain about - but the website is poor, cluttered, and hard to navigate - and there are a lot of adverts that my adblocker has given up on.

I think Glen Williams is one of the better (possible the best) of the regular 'journalist' covering Cardiff City FC. His press conference questions are usually informed and targeted (unlike the crap some of his colleagues offer up).

But that is not enough to make me want to subscribe. Even if that means I miss the latest Mozzer exclusive.

I can live without and the important information (what there is) appears on the club website first!

They've put their coverage of the death of Afon Lido player Ioan Evans behind the paywall!

If you are a member of a Cardiff library you can borrow eBooks, audio books eMagazines and eNewspapers, including the Echo, for free using an app called Borrow Box
