  • NHS Wales dentistry

My NHS dentist is going private from April
He fitted a three tooth bridge five years ago.Which has started moving. He says one of the teeth under the bridge has fractured. Solution, two implants at another dentist. Cost £5k.
Just like vets dental charges have got out of hand.

Paid for a check up in december and they suggested come back for a scale and polish to keep on top of things - which I do every couple of years.
Anyway they can’t fit me in for 4 months but they still wanted the £50 odd paying now before they even book me in.
I was fuming with this - been a patient with them for over 40 years!

Dentistry is a national scandal. It's just a money making exercise but it should be a key NHS service.

Just sign on the dole. You’ll get free dental work and free pet care at the vets.

              Hand to mouth, it seems.

By the way, I am in the process of having a single tooth (as opposed to a married one) implanted - and it's costing me just shy of £3K.

I've just been looking. Two teeth needed would be 6k.

A Ford Focus, a 4 bedroomed house with Sky's premium package, and a season ticket for the Premier League team of their choice!

I've always found it curious that NHS dentistry is paid for and we accept that without the baggage that comes with nearly every other NHS service. It is a bit odd. Why do we pay for dental check ups that take five minutes and not doctors visits?

                            An interesting summary here.

In the wake of the 70th anniversary of the NHS, Roger Matthews considers the impact this beloved institution has had over the years on dentistry in the UK. Dentistry in the UK is awaiting reform. The BDA complains that there is simply not enough state funding and there is a looming recruitment crisis. Dentists are…

On the other topic here that some seem to be mocking (I'll guarantee they aren't one of the 5million Brits without access to a dentist!), asylum seekers do get free NHS dental care. I assume there are limits and I'm not saying they should have no access but it's wholly understandable many will be pissed off when such services aren't there for tax payers.

Mate, can you please read this from fullfact.org which is an independent fact checking charity? https://fullfact.org/online/dinghy-migrants-benefits/

Just read it, there's a lot of lies and catchy soundbites that are circulated about people who come over on small boats. They don't get free everything, that's ridiculous
