Just read it, there's a lot of lies and catchy soundbites that are circulated about people who come over on small boats. They don't get free everything, that's ridiculous
They do get access to free dental care. Something which millions in the UK don't get though. No need for people to turn things into anything bigger than that, but that is the case.

      An interesting summary here.

In the wake of the 70th anniversary of the NHS, Roger Matthews considers the impact this beloved institution has had over the years on dentistry in the UK. Dentistry in the UK is awaiting reform. The BDA complains that there is simply not enough state funding and there is a looming recruitment crisis. Dentists are…

On the other topic here that some seem to be mocking (I'll guarantee they aren't one of the 5million Brits without access to a dentist!), asylum seekers do get free NHS dental care. I assume there are limits and I'm not saying they should have no access but it's wholly understandable many will be pissed off when such services aren't there for tax payers.

We can thank Tony Blair for putting NHS Dentistry into private overdrive. It's a national scandal, or atleast it should be.

The majority of them have better teeth than us lot anyway, and they're not as fat. There's a lot to be said for a diet that isn't fast, furious and processed.

You should try the merican diet.

I can only imagine. The Turks can troff as well, i think that they're fatter than us as a nation.

It is an absolute scandal. My mum didn't see a dentist for 5 years and has to drive an hour and a half for one now. She's on housing benefit but that doesn't entitle her to anything dentists wise and none would take her on.

Shocking, and it's all too familiar. Could say Dickensian.

Your right you know, I’ve even heard rumours of them trying to find the boats to catch a lift back as many can’t believe how bad it is here, things were better back home!

That's where we are heading Dickens times. 150 plus billionaires in the country while others driven into poverty.

We need a wealth tax but we have a right wing party demonising immigrants and want to give tax breaks to those sending their children into private education.

And move this to the loony forum.🤣

Asylum seekers do get free NHS services, as they should as we are a civilised country.

immigrants do not - you have to pay the IHS surcharge during the immigration process to cover the cost of any NHS access, on top of visa application fees.

This amounts to over a grand per year per adult and £750 ish per child being paid by immigrants towards the NHS - on top of any tax they pay.

I think it's roughly the same amount someone working around £55k per annum will pay to the NHS before they've paid a single penny in tax.

THe immigration process is also being extended from 5 to 10 years for several types of visa, so in a lot of cases immigrants will have paid a lot more on average than the majority of the population

Not entirely sure how civilised we are when 5 million people can't get a dentist, but I take the point!

Do many people actually still get a free dentist? How?

I think he means "can't sign on to an NHS dentist"
Which is true. If you don't fork out for a check-up within 12 months, they chuck you off their books - then try getting back on !
Many / most dentists have closed their books to new NHS patients, as they claim that the Money thy get from the NHS doesn't cover their costs.
