Sorry to disappoint some on here, but I won”t be yelling conspiracy about this, more that having such a low representation from any team which has led any league for as much as we have done this season must tend to invalidate their matkings to an extent. The top six has two Stockport players in it and there two each from Stevenage and Reading in the top ten. I assume the markings are done by individual fans of every club involved, so you are going to get discrepancies in markings, but it’s working in a way which does the site no favours here.

I can relate to this to some extent because I was the City representative on the Football Manager series for a few years around a decade ago and from what I can gather, I was more than twice the age of most of the other club representatives. Now, they may have been “buttering me up”, but when I packed it in, I was told I was much less of a problem than most other representatives because my markings tended to be more realistic than others who tended to over mark their club and players - seems to me something similar is happening with Whoscored.com.

Another reason for the lack of City representation in the top forty could be BBM’s rotation policy. Rotating central defenders is very unusual and, from memory, players in that position in particular need to be featuring every week to maintain their position near the top - but, to counter that, Rubin has missed half of the season now and yet is still in the top twenty.
Fotmob have 5 city players in the top 40

    Perry NG 6
    Rubin Colwill 9
    Joel Bagan 14
    Wintle 35
    Salech 36

Dylan Lawlor just outside at 41

That’s more realistic, I think you’d expect any top of the table team to have five or six in the top 40 at this stage of the season.

NG would have been my vote. He always seems to rank highly in this strange stats based ranks. As did Mark Hudson back in the day

            Re: Who scored.com

I came across another article the other day that possibly might have some bearing on this - it showed that the number of headed clearances in all levels of the game in this country has increased massively over the last 2 -3 seasons.
In the premier league they are up 50% and in league 2 up by 100% - with the championship and league one fitting somewhere inbetween.

This is pretty surprising - I suppose the resurgent popularity of long throws is partly responsible for this, but it can't explain it all.

I also think that there is a decent chance that this is messing up the whoscored ratings. They probably need to be recalibrated around the new normal amount of headers won, as where they are now is clearly not matching the eye-test.
