    Re: homophobic chanting

[QUOTE=Feedback;5637371]explain how chanting "Chelsea Rent boys" infers that the singer has a general dislike of gays and lesbians?

Because they're chanting a term that the Crown Prosecution Service describes as a homophobic slur and a hate crime. Nice fishing expedition though

      Re: homophobic chanting

I’m all for freedom of speech but blatantly abusive and derogatory language has no place in society, just because it’s “the football” doesn’t make it okay.

I’ve never sung that sickening Swansea chant that was presumably made up by one of our fans with zero brain cells. Why people think singing about sexual abuse is funny I’ll never know.

Does that make me “woke” or a “snowflake”? I think it makes me a decent human being.

        Absolutely, I couldn't agree more.

someone needs to tell the CPS that homohobia is a dislike of those who walk on the other side of the road to the rest of us. singing "Chelsea Rent Boys" does no such thing.

I always thought “rent boys” offered their services to other men, for a fiscal reward ?

Let me put it like this - if Chelsea fans started singing "Feedback's sister's a prostitute" would your reaction be to defend them saying there's nothing to suggest that they're using the word prostitute in a derogatory way?

They can sing what they like, it wouldn't bother me at all. I certainly wouldn't want it banned. I'd also struggle to see that the inference would be they (i) hate me (ii) hate my sister or (iii) hate prostitutes, as nothing they've sung indicates that in any way whatsoever.

Very easy to judge from our perspectives (I’m assuming you’re a straight male, my apologies if not).

If I were sat with a gay man and that chant started around him, I’m sure it would make him and me feel uncomfortable. We complain about our crowds and then some are seemingly happy with chants that alienate a lot of them.

These are different times we live in and if it makes football fans stop and think about the inference of what they’re chanting I’m all for it.

I’ve been one of the worst offenders in the past, fueled by alcohol and the “it’s the football it’s okay” rhetoric but I’m glad it’s changing.

The chant is about male prostitutes, not gay men.

If you can’t see the clear link then there’s no point discussing any further.

there is no link as not all gay men are male prostitutes. If you think all gay men are prostitutes and vice versa then the issue is with you.

My daughter is gay and I have taken her to the city with her wife and no issue at all when there with any songs - maybe got lucky - in fairness she would probably shrug and laugh at the singers but I have heard real objection to the rainbow corner flags when used - never contradicted those around me as there really is no point - there is no cure for stupid

What a sheltered life you must have lived to be this naive!

Anyway, life's too short to carry on with this any longer and I don't want to keep you from choir practice so I'll nip my side in the bud here :hehe:

not giving a shit about what people think isn't being naive, its tacit acceptance that you're better off ignoring those with odious views.

£15k fine and an action plan to work to over the next 12 months.

Cardiff City Football Club has a zero-tolerance policy to all forms of discrimination and will continue to work with the police and governing bodies to eradicate the scourge from our game and society.
